Another way to distribute app without using apple store

I work at a high school and teachers will be learning how to create iPad apps. As we all know, nothing is guaranteed with approval from apple store so I was wondering what would be another way of distributing the app to students. Adhoc has limits of 100 devices and we have more students. Does buzztouch create a QR code? Thanks

The only possible alternative is through Apple's Enterprise Developer Program. Not sure is a school would meet the requirements. You can check it out here: https://developer.apple.com/support/ios/enterprise.html Other than that, you're limited to the 100 devices, and the terms of use are pretty specific about development not distribution using the Ad Hoc method.

Jackhos1, Apple would love for you to be correct, but that's not true. Go to Cydia http://cydia.saurik.com/ In my blog (see posted link above) you'll see other options. It's true that I've not jailbroken an idevice, but I haven't been to the moon either. Whether you pursue an alternative option or not is up to you.

I'm looking at testflight which might work out for us. You create your account with them and give them a list of testers for your app and then build your ipa file and give to them and they send out an email where the tester will install a certificate on their device and then have the opportunity to install the app on their device. Has anyone else in the community used this service?

^^ i checked out testflight and i bet it would be ideal for your scenario. proably get an educator discount too. don't be suprised if 1/2 those kids in your HS already have jailbroken their iphones/ipads so they can get free apps. but you can't be promoting/using this in a public school! There is no QR Code function built into BT, but you can make one of those very easily: http://createqrcode.appspot.com/

Yes can promote jailbreaking. In 2010, the EFF overthrew Apple's claim that jailbreaking is in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and declared that iOS jailbreaking is legal in the United States. The decision 'which applies to all mobile smart phones and not the iPad, does not require Apple or other handset makers to allow jailbreaking. Instead, it makes it lawful to circumvent controls designed to block jailbreaking.' I don't know why people believe it's not allowed. I doubt Steve Jobs followed silly rules just because someone said those were the rules. Jailbreaking is legal and there's many valid reasons to do so. BrianS' reason is a valid reason to do so. Over 1 million T-Mobile customers, plus 10 million Chinese, plus many millions have done so. Fred
