How to make black writing on white navigation bar (bar at the top)?

As white is coming back into fashion, BIG time, like iPhones and cameras, I was wondering if my app could get a good new, modern look by having a white navigation bar. However, when I tried this, because the writing is in white, the writing just disappeared. So I was really looking into changing the colour of the font. So I could have a white Navigation Bar with black or grey writing. It is only an experiment and it might just look shoddy but I'll give it a go. See how it looks. Also, if possible, if I were to use white for the top, it would suit having white as the tabs at the bottom.
