Apple certificate question

I'm trying to wrap my head around certificates. So once you create your certificate and it gets associated with a provisioning profile and you have generated your mobile provision file can you revoke those certificates to create future apps?

it's tricky but if you follow the steps Stephan lays out - slowly and one by one (don't cheat or skip) you'll get it. i added to the thread another link that helped me out as well. Step 6 is a tricky one and that's where i needed to do more research. http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=10EFDB8B90E3CEA983E9322&status=&searchInput=codesign&sortColumn=FT.dateStampUTC&sortUpDown=DESC¤tPage=1&doViews=1

Thanks I'll try. I just didn't want to mess up any certificates related to anything that was waiting for apple to approve.

Your certificates are good for all the apps you create. It's essentially your identify with Apple, so they can keep track of who makes apps. They are not related to a particular app, but rather to a person or development team. Mark

Mark So you can revoke the previous certificate to get your next app ready to view in ad hoc? Correct?

You don't have to revoke any certificates at all. The one distribution, one development, and one ad hoc certificate you create are good for ALL your apps. You just sign each app with the same certificates. The Apple Development Center does a pretty decent job explaining certificates as well...take some time to explore the info the provide there. Mark

My problem is that I had an online ibuilder.com create a certificate that I used and I created my app with them and I'm concerned about using that certificate. ( Did this before I got a mac) So I am confused even after reading what to do because I don't want problems with an app that is waiting for approval. Step 1. Create Private Key and Distribution Certificate Before you can get your certificate and private key ( .p12 file) you have to generate a Certificate Signing Request, download your certificate and install it on your local machine. 1. Generate New Certificate Signing Request (CSR) Your CSR is successfully generated! Please download it on your local machine 2. Upload Certificate Signing Request to Your developer account Click here to Request a Certificate within the Apple Developer Provisioning Portal. On the Request a Certificate page, scroll down to the bottom and select choose file. Upload the .certSigningRequest file that you've just created and downloaded on step 2. 3. Generate and download Distribution certificate Once you uploaded the file and clicked on Submit, Apple will redirect you to the Current Distribution Certificate page, and your new certificate will be listed as pending there. Wait for a few minutes and then refresh the page - you can download your certificate (once available, click download to download your .cer file) 4. Upload Distribution Certificate Upload your Distribution Certificate :

Hey, Not sure how ibuilder works, but if you created certificates at the Apple Development center, you should be able to download them and incorporate them into your new Mac and Xcode environment. I do believe that certificates are related to people, not machines, so you should be able to install them on your new box. And, it should not affect your current app in review. If you revoked your certificate...then I think you would affect that app. Marl

I had an issue creating my own certificate on my new mac and that was why I had ibuild.com create the certificate that I used: Lake Highland Preparatory School Jan 12, 2013 GameDev Distribution Issued download Revoke The problem that I originally had was that the certificates didn't match the provisioning file. So this is why I ask to revoke this certificate because it is connected the GameDev app that is under review by apple.

Apple sent this out today so you might try it again. We have identified and resolved a recent issue with certificates for iOS and Mac code signing, Apple Push Notifications and Safari Extensions. If you have experienced any problems with a certificate issued over the past 4 days, simply re-generate a new one. We apologize for any inconvenience. Best regards, Apple Developer Program Support
