Achievement Tutorial

I went through MGoBlue's Game Center tutorial, which was awesome, and ended up adding achievements to my game. I spent so much time I thought I would make a little tutorial too. Try it. It only works if you have done the Game Center Tutorial already. https://sites.google.com/site/jbrzensk/Achievement_Tutorial.pdf

Great Tutorial jbrzensk, thank you so much! I've been trying to implement achievements in the weekend but couldn't do it. I have a couple of questions:did you manage to implement the user notifications? Did you take care of eventual iOS < 4.1? I'm not sure if the app could be rejected because of this. Thanks again Kahuna

I did not implement the game center notifications for achievements because they only work with ios5. Any other ones and they crash. I tried doing this http://www.typeoneerror.com/articles/post/game-center-achievement-notification, which works for other ios, but did not finish. Had trouble getting the achievement name to show up. If you do not build for less than ios4 the app would or get rejected, unless in itunesconnect you say it is for a lower iOS. I think game center only works with a certain iOS, not sure, but I remember something from my google trips. If you are having trouble with the achievements, Check the debugger. Do you get little things saying achievement failed or completed. Then you can figure out where the error is, either before submitting, or after.

Hi I got them working thanks to your tutorial! I built using 3.0 as deployment target but I cannot test it on a device running 3.0 or 4.0. I'm not sure if I have to implement this code to check which iOS is running on the device. BOOL isGameCenterAPIAvailable() { // Check for presence of GKLocalPlayer class. BOOL localPlayerClassAvailable = (NSClassFromString(@GKLocalPlayer)) != nil; // The device must be running iOS 4.1 or later. NSString *reqSysVer = @4.1; NSString *currSysVer = [[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion]; BOOL osVersionSupported = ([currSysVer compare:reqSysVer options:NSNumericSearch] != NSOrderedAscending); return (localPlayerClassAvailable && osVersionSupported); } Apple documentation says that you should disable everything related to game center if the iOS is not >4.1 so I guess I should disable the buttons linking to the leader boards and achievements at least.

Yeah, good call disabling if they don't have a high enough os.
