urgent server issues on published app

Hi, In the last few weeks I've received multiple emails from people who have downloaded my Drinkly app and have experienced issues with the main menu. The binary was last updated in early October and no issues have surfaced until now. Issues: after downloading the app, 2/3 of the main menu options when clicked appear selected, but no action occurs. The original complaints were only for iPad users, however as of yesterday, this error occurs for iPhone users as well, and I was able to replicate the problem by deleting it from my phone and redownloading and experiencing this. Here is the kicker however, if I manually go into buzztouch making a change, and thus causing the app to ask the user if they want to refresh the content the app reloads, and works as normal. Interesting timing: the complaints started rolling in a few weeks ago after I made some significant changes to the application, and recently I submitted a new binary (nothing changed, but I just wanted people to update to take notice to the new interface changes) but the app updated was rejected by Apple because of this error. The 2 options that do not produce an action in the main menu are ones that were changed during my interface updating (through buzztouch control panel), and the one left untouched (More options) is still working. Not sure if this helps diagnose the problem. My app has been in the app store with no problems until recently. I am desperate for anyone to please help me. It is my unprofessional/completely amateur opinion that there is hosting issues, because the binary hasn't changed. Maybe I did something bad in the control panel? If that is the case, I hereby give all buzztouch employees to rummage around my app. Additionally, here are 5 promo codes for people to help me debug. We are about to release a pretty big website/seo plan to get more downloads, and this can't proceed with this bug. Promo codes: EA4JJNH9Y7LE MLPM3WFYPRJ7 F64K4PMNFJ4K FPY4F9EN7PPP LW9KJ9NAXMKE Please and thanks in advance! Hopelessly lost, Pete

Hey. Running iPhone 5.0.1 on 4S Just grabbed top code and installed your app. Here is what happens: Splash screen - disclaimer page - opens as expected and works as expected. Menu 'Find games' does not load. Menu 'About Drinkly' does not open. More options does open. Terms of use opens. Feedback (email screen opens) SUggest a game does not open. Share on Facebook does open. So you say the app started having issues after you made some changes, hard to say what it causing these issues without knowing what you changed. I'd suggest that you submit an update ASAP, get it working in xcode with the new changes and get it submitted to Apple quickly. I've been here mate and had to disable an app from downloads and hope not too many users would complain. I really doubt it is a server issue, thousands of apps running every day that call home to BT without issue. Sounds to me that the changes you've made don't like to the screens they call properly, you've updated the pages and made new ones but not updated the links to them. When you download the source code and run in xcode does everything work? Sorry if none of this helps but wanted to try the app for you and offer some insight. Above all, try not to worry, bad things happen to good people all the time.

Thank you MacApple for your report. This is the error that's being reported and I have noticed. Like I said in the OP that if I were to go into my control panal, and litterally save any random screen (forcing you to refresh) the app will fix. I am going to do that now - can you confirm this? Just launched this in the simulator (fresh install) and no action is occuring per your description above. This error is more recent than my changes to my interface. I had no problems until a few days ago.

OK, confirmed - the config.txt data that is compiled in the app is not the same (and is not valid) as the data in the control panel. This is the only explanation because using the refresh button forces the most recent configuration data to download - which works. It's hard to say why this would suddenly start happening. This actually doesn't add up and I would be surprised if it hasn't been doing this for sometime and you just didn't realize it. Your control panel / backend tests fine. So.. a) Download the source code for your app. b) Compile (this will ensure that the BT_config.txt file that gets compiled in Xcode will match the most recent configuration data on the server - the configuration data that works. c) Test this on your device. It should behave exactly the same with our without a refresh. Again, the reason it will behave the same before or after a refresh is because the configuration data in Xcode will match the configuration on the server. d) Submit an app update to Apple.

OK> Refreshed app as per request and app notice and all works. The changes you made messed something up buddy, hard to say what. Still think the best option is download the fresh config date and test and resubmit. If you're lucky it'll be live by next Saturday. Keep me posted, I'll be here for next half hour. Someone else will jump in if they have any suggestions but something is awry in your config data, when they pull the new data it works. Make sense?

The 'man' posted at same time. As David said it may well have been doing this for sometime and nobody bothered to tell you, people spend a buck sometimes and right it enough and don't complain.

David - thank you very much for your prompt reply. I downloaded my source code again, compiled, and it ran correctly the first time. Tried this twice and no problems. Great diagnosis on the config file. However, it is still strange that this happened all of a sudden, but I can attest that is a very new development as I downloaded Drinkly on my mother's (lol) iPhone on Christmas with no problems. Even someone who downloaded the app when it first launched refreshed and told me that it wasn't working. Why do you think some content works while others don't? What can I do in the future when updating my app to avoid this? The nature of my app requires regular updates at least once a month with new content and screens. My app is currently under review, and for anyone interested in my next steps I am going to: -terminate the binary currently in the app store -slug through codesigning this source code, submit an update to the app store asap -petition for an expedited review process Hopefully this fixes the problems. Thank you both of you for help. Much appreciated. Peter

just to clarify my terminology - I am developer-rejecting the update that is currently in the queue for review, the preparing the new source code for upload, then submitting an petitioning for expedited review. Still wondering what I can do to avoid this problem in the future. Thanks again, David and MacApple

Good plan (developer rejecting). It does seem strange that some would work and some would not. So strange in fact that I don't believe it. Not that I don't believe you of course, but that I don't believe your project is behaving differently on different devices. iOS is very good at this (Android is horrible). I'll do some digging to see if I can figure out how this coud be possible. Who knows, could be a great find!

Hi, i was having an issue today with menus, but then after restarting the device all was good again...maybe not related? Also, menus can behave weirdly if you are using icons in your menu list but forgot to put the file into xcode..just some thoughts...will check your app soon when on actual device....good luck!
