Before saving I formatted it with wide left and right margins but when it appears on the simulator, the text goes from the left margin of screen to right. I would do this before getting too far into it...validate the HTML that Word created for you. Use the W3C validation tool (google for the address), it's very very useful. I say this because it's possible that no matter what you adjust in the HTML it may not actually work because Word is famous for injecting NON HTML, special MS only tags that are very confusing to mobile browsers. Not saying this is the case, just that Word is a word-processor natively and asking it to convert your editing to HTML doesn't always produce what you would expect. You'll gain a deeper understanding of this after you use the validator tool. Back to margins: In CSS you setup a class then assign that class to the HTML element you want to put the margins on, probably the body tag. Using inline CSS may be easier (insetad of an external CSS stylesheet) you would put the style tag in line, like: <body style='margin:10px;'> instead of making a CSS class.
