SPLASH SCREEN BLACKOUT PLEASE HELP

Hello all, I have almost completed my application and am going to present it to my company next week and I was attempting to make some final revisions before doing so, I was fiddling with the Splash Screen/Launch Images to finalize that and now I have a large problem on my hands, my app is seemingly blacked out and I can't access it. I made some changes in xcode to the launch image default.png files and attempted to set the splash screen image in BT to default.png. I'm not sure what the exact problem is but I reverted all of my changes in XCode to what i though was my old functional app and I'm still blacked out. I deleted my old splash screen in BT and tried to create a new one with the rest of my app unchanged.... SOMEONE PLEASSEEEEE HELP

Uninstall it on the iPhone or iPad. Do a fresh clean and run it again. Happened to me before, not sure why but that fixed it for me.

I just tried that and it gave me the file could not be found in Xcode..... All of my files are still right here. I haven't changed them.. I noticed one thing that's abnormal. There's a little yellow caution symbol by the landscape launch image picture under Summary of my project and this is one of the things I was messing with before the breakdown...

Be sure the files in your Xcode project and the corresponding files/directories on your hard drive match and are complete. Drag missing files into xcode if need be.

Right click on the launch image, select file... and that file needs to be in your project. It should prompt to create it if not.

That's the weird thing... That file is in my project already.. I think I might have some sort of Buzztouch problem.. I got an older version of my app to come up doing what you said, but upon refreshing the app it returned to the black screen. The only thing I touched in Buzztouch was the Splash Screen. I changed the image file names to Default.png and then in my attempts to get back my old work I deleted the screen entirely and re-creately a new splash that is the same as I had when the app was functioning. My BT app should be the same as it was when it was working.. but refreshing seems to crash it..

But I've still got that weird little caution symbol even though the landscape file is in my BT_Images folder both on my hard drive and in the Xcode project.. So much confusion. It has to be something stupid and simple.

Just my two cents, but I use Default.png as the splash screen, and don't bother with creating a splash screen...screen...within BT. By default, iOS will load Default*.png anyway, which is the case of the BT download, is a black graphic. So, I just made the image I wanted as a splash screen the same size as all the Default*.png files, substituted them (deleted/added to Xcode project), and it works like a charm! No need to use the BT Splash Screen feature. Mark

Thanks for advice Mark. That was my thought process at the beginning of this whole episode. To just use the defaulting that Xcode has and make them my splash screen instead of the black graphic. I made my image file the same size and changed the names to Default.png etc to try and get it to work and this is what caused my issue.

It should work then, provided the files are named exactly as the original, and you have imported them correctly into Xcode. Give this doc a review to make sure : http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Adding_Files_To_A_Project_v1.0.pdf Mark

I'm pretty sure I had the exact same prob last week. I wish I could remember exactly what I did to fix it... I think I actually erased the Default.png in the project. Did the right click, select file. It prompts something like add to project or something about duplicate files. Ok. Clean. Hope that was it... Feel your pain.

Ok... Now I'm a bit more worried. I changed the launch image files back to my images that I want in there and now when the app runs it launches with the proper background but then sends me back to black screen limbo.. I'm terrified that I won't be able to get back to the functioning app. I double checked and made sure I put the files in the right place, Mark. I'm fairly certain I did that part right.

Did you clean, uninstall the app on the device or simulator, then run it?

I did..... There's another weird behavior worth mentioning. I had the app running on multiple test devices that some colleagues have. After fiddling with the splash screen in BT it was prompting to refresh because the data have changed. One of them selected 'yes' and since then they are getting the same launch image->black screen limbo behavior that I am getting on my device which I thought was caused by the mistakes i may have made in Xcode and re-compiling... This causes me more confusion because I dont understand how I could have messed up anything within the BT project.. I deleted the splash screen...screen.. from BT entirely. I also tried to re-create an entire new Xcode project and re-copy over my resources and I'm STILL getting this behavior. What in the world is going on? My head is spinning

Did you ''re-create an entire new Xcode project and re-copy over my resources'' using a previously downloaded package or a new one? If you think everything is right on the buzztouch side, re-download the project and drag the new config.txt file only to xcode (ensuring the one in xcode gets replaced). Clean. Run. You'll get it. Just be patient. I was in exactly the same spot a few days ago.

I downloaded a new package entirely and copied the resources... Where it's the most weird is, I'm not even positive that everything is right on the buzztouch side... Since the issue began I refreshed the app on another device that HAD NOT been re-compiled through XCode.. and that device isn't running the app properly either.. I.E. the update through buzztouch caused the same error. Im wondering if deleting the splash screen has caused some funky behavior in XCode where it is looking for a reference to a splash screen that no longer exists...or something.. that's why I thought rebuilding a newly downloaded project would work..but it didnt..ahh

Theme/Splash Screen must be blank, especially if you erased the splash screen. That would cause the behavior you describe. If you find it still had a file name in it, erase it. Redownload the package or just copy the configuration data and paste it into the xcode project config.txt screen. Clean. Run.

Assuming the last post took care of it, if you are doing iOS only, the Splash Screen in Buzztouch isn't necessary. Set the screens in Xcode to get the sought after Splash behavior. I think the Splash Screen was primarily designed to enable the Android OS and the iOS to have the same appearance (don't mean to speak for the BT guys, that's just what I surmise).

Yeah...I realized that today and that's sorta how this whole mess started ha. I don't have a file name under Theme/Splash .. I took that out when I deleted the screen entirely.

Look in the configuration data; in the section that starts with ''bt themes'', about lines 18 to 20. Is there something that looks like this; splashScreenItemId:5B5D6CB50C5728C7C1A47F7, splashScreenNickname:splash? There should not be. The splashScreenItemId should be blanks and no splashScreenNickname should be there.

Also for future reference be sure to check the console in xcode to see what is happening when your app launches. The console will display messages about the apps loading and operations and will often inform you if a resource is missing or where in the loading process the app is getting hung up on. Just FYI.
