Simple way to convert existing website to a mobile optimised version

Hi All, Do you know if there is there a simple and cheap way to convert an existing website to a mobile optimised one? I am creating an app using BT for a friend of mine to correspond with a website that they already have. The website includes features like a multi-search function and database. Can this website be easily converted to a mobile optimised version and then linked to the app via the custom url screen? i.e - I want to build a corresponding app with additional features but also use the websites existing database and search functions (but have it optimised for the mobile so it actually looks like it is part of the app..) Thanks in advance for your help! K.

Do you know what the website is currently built in? If its Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla, it's as simple as adding a plugin to handle the conversion in the background. I've been building all of my sites on a Wordpress platform just because this functionality is so easy to implement.

as always - Google has a tool for that- http://www.google.com/gwt/n i've used it before but the results are iffy. seems to just take the content and redisplay it in a skinny column. if not that then there a a ton of them if you google make your website mobile optimized i've tinkered with Mobify a bit and was not impressed. there is a difference between a mobile website and a website optimized for mobile devices. you really want a mobile website if possible. i write my own mobile websites and go heavy on the CSS. i'm guessing if your site has a database it wasn't generated in wordpress or a canned service.
