Android Image Gallery - (still) -Something's not right!

APP loads great on my device, background images work like a charm. Data url seems to set up correctly to pull images from back end with JASON script. When tapping on image gallery get loading icon in center & a pop up window that says, Something's not right: A problem occured trying to download some data from the internet. Check your internet connection then try again. OK I checked my wifi & G4, Alls well! This image gallery's kicking my ass!

Hi jaymobi, my name is Ines and i am a final year student at university and i am designing an app for my project. My iphone app is similar to the functionality of yours. I just need an app that displays dress images within a circular image whenever your click on different parts of the circle. I really have no idea how to go about this since i am only a fashion designer. Could you be so kind as to help me do this. I would be really grateful.^^

Hello Ines, I'd be more than happy to help you if I get this ironed out myself. You might want to do some searches here on the forum because their are some great tutorials from experts with way more experience than myself.

Hi Jaymobi, thanks for your quick reply. I will do so . Could you at least give me a direction in which to head or a search term to use in the forums? i mean like is there some sort of script that can make my images appear in the circle? Thanks

Hi jaymobi, When using a data URL the first thing to check when having issues is that the JSON is valid. Jsonlint.com is an excellent resource to do so. You said you did that already and that's awesome, one problem out of the way. So the next thing to check it that what is actually being returned is actually JSON and not HTML that displays a sJSON in a web browser. Lots of people mix this up at first. You can check this by viewing the source code of the Data URL in a browser. It should look like the JSON examples provided in the Documentation in the Help section of this website. If you see any HTML then you will need to modify your .php script to output just JSON and not HTML. Once that is all squared away you should check that the JSON although valid, is it still missing something? The Documentation covers what is expected for the JSON of each screen type. For a Image gallery have a look at: http://www.buzztouch.com/docs/v1.5/screen_images.php Make sure your JSON includes the information to build the image gallery itself, and then the information to populate it with child items (images).

Hey Parker, I can't thank you enough for your assistance with my image gallery dilemma. I was starting to get a little discouraged. I didn't know about Jsonlint, Thanks for the resource - Just checked and Results are valid Json. As far as the source code, I don't see any HTML when viewing Data URL in a browser. This is the first line: {childItems:[ {itemId:8333DE6892NA384089B0,itemType:BT_imageItem, imageName:Image18.jpg, imageURL:http://mysitedotcom/images/Image01.jpg}, This is the last line: ]} I have over 300 images in this gallery. Is that to much maybe?

Your first line starts with ' {childItems:[ {itemId:8333DE6892NA384089B0,itemType:B... ' ? If so then you also need to include the JSON for the Image gallery itself. Then the child items are a part of that JSON describing the image gallery screen. If you look at the example on this page you'll see what I mean: http://www.buzztouch.com/docs/v1.5/childItems.php

ok, I've been trying to wrap my head around the example. So..I thought I was already using the dataURL in it's JSON configuration. Do I need to edit all to say BT_screen_images rather than BT_imageItem Please explain how do I include the JSON for the Image gallery itself, Do I need to Re download the changed source code, import something into Eclipse project? Sorry for my ignorance, I Don't see what you mean but really do want to learn this.

Derp! I was completely misunderstanding the problem... The JSON you pasted above looks fine and it sounds like it is validating. I was thinking for some reason that you were going to need to provide the JSON for the Gallery and the Images as though you were referencing the screen itself in the JSON but, if you are using the Data URL then you should only need the JSON for the Child Items (images) like you currently have it. Fred, above in his post was correct in questioning if the Image Gallery screen was even finished. It isn't. Have a look at the README.txt file in your project download folder around line 93. You'll see that the image gallery was to be included in the phase II update which we never got to because we recognized the need to work on BT Server and the plugins for it. Bummer. So If you are familiar with Java you can dig in and finish coding the screens yourself, or maybe consider hiring a developer to do it for you. At this time we are focused on getting BT Server and it's plugins up and running, so there is no telling when we might get back around to finishing the v1.5 Android screens.

Oh I didn't realize he made an update to that screen. We're all out of the office this week taking a bit of a break. If you did re-download and recompile the app with the new code and this problem still exists for you, then I would mention the message you saw ( TOP This is the image title that is really long to see what happens to the text ) to david on that other thread where he has been responding to you directly. It's the quickest way to get a response from him about that screen. Just be sure to check that you did in fact re-download your project code and recompile the new project first.
