Server 2.0 Questions

Hi everyone! Need a little help. I just started using buzztouch.com over Christmas and last night I switched over to Server 2.0. Setup went totally find with no problems or issues. That said, I created my first app using Server 2.0 and downloaded the file and it loads fine. My problem is that there is no refresh button and any changes I make in Server 2.0 aren't showing up. Where do I start? Thanks!

I did read that you have to register but I'm pretty sure I did that. Is there a way to check? Should I register again?

Hi Chris, in my experience you need to do following: 1) Create icon 2) Create a menu or button menu (or more if you want a tabbed layout) 3) Go to layout/tabs: a) choose non-tabbed layout and point to (one of) the menu you just created b) choose tabbed layout and point every (used) tab to a screen. Be shure the first tab is pointed to buttonmenu or other menu Optional: 4) create a splash-screen (if you like) and edit the settings to your whishes. Now you can export your app and import it in XCode. Don't forget to include the Default.png image. I guess that covers everything (maybe some steps not needed and hope I didn't miss one. Let me hear if and where I'm wrong). Best Regards, Danny

Hi Danny, Thanks for responding. I already have the app created but the two problems I'm running into are: No refresh button and the app isn't reading/seeing the server. I believe it's a registration issue but I'm not sure. Any ideas? Thanks Chris

OK, so you have the app (created in Server 2.0) downloaded in xcode and on your device and up and running so you have it all setup screens, icons etc but the refresh isn't showing? Strange. What do you have under: Configuration Data URL and Report to Cloud URL?

Hi Chris, Did you follow my steps?? Created the tabbed or non-tabbed layout before you downloaded the zip-file?? If you created them (layout) later (after you've downloaded the zipfile) you could do this (fast way): 1) go to application home --> configuration data --> copy the configuration data. 2) in XCode --> BT_Config -->open BT_config.txt -->paste the just copied code --> hit CMD + S (=save) 3) in XCode navigation bar -->Product --> Clean 4) now re-build Best Regards, Danny

Is that what you mean? If not, I will try your steps again.

Hi Chris, When you run in Xcode there is a screen that says All Output. Have a look at what is saying when the simulator is running!! Are there any errors other messages? Best Regards, Danny

Hi Chris, I'm a bit running out of solutions. If you want I can try to import the project in my XCode. If so, send me the zip-file to info at parkstadmedia dot nl To make sure I got the latest version please create a new zipfile. You could also send me login details to same email-address (I'm trusted!!!) Best Regards, Danny

Hi, I just loaded his posted Config Data URL. It loads great. If you look at it, it shows the Home Screen for tab is is a Button Menu. If you look at the is button menu, you can see that the right side nav button is set to 'refresh.' This is a common mistake in that new users think the right-side button is somehow connected to something by simply choosing a type. Not the case, the right button needs to be connected to a screen. Choose 'refresh' as the right button type does nothing more than adding an image to the right side in the nav bar. OK. So why no refresh button in the top left on the home screen (the button screen). Could it be that the nav bar on this screen is hidden and he simply does not see it? The Refresh Button (the button to refresh the apps content) will only show on the first tabs home screen.

Super great thinking Stephen, you should do this for a living! Has to be something like that if app runs, compiles etc. Good stuff as always. Oh yeah, Happy 2012 Stephen!

Danny - it may come to that but lets see what else we can work out. Stephen - thanks for the info. I turned the right side refresh off but that top nab bar is black in the Simulator. I haven't changed any color schemes at all.

Hi Stephen, You're right about that. Could also be a cache thing with simulator. I know I had some troubles with the simulator which I could only solve by restarting my Mac. Other question is: is that config file the same as the one in the XCode project? Best Regards, Danny

Restart didn't help but was worth a shoot. I have tabs/screen but none of them are working, I think because I can't refresh the updates I've made. And yes the normal refresh button on the first page isn't showing up like normal.

Hi Chris, My last option (can't think of anything new). Did you do this: 1) go to application home --> configuration data --> copy the configuration data. 2) in XCode --> BT_Config -->open BT_config.txt -->paste the just copied code --> hit CMD + S (=save) 3) in XCode navigation bar -->Product --> Clean 4) now re-build ?????? Did you add the next folders from the zip to your xcode project: 1) BT_Plugins 2) BT_Images 3) BT_Docs 4) BT_Video 5) BT_Sound as in the instruction.pdf in your zip-file ???? Best Regards, Danny Kessels

Ok...button line is...I wasn't following the instruction.pdf...give me the noob beating now! =) BUT...here is something weird...so started over and downloaded the zip from the server I created with Buzztouch. Followed the instructions step by step and the app is working. Here is the kicker...any changes I make in my new server client don't show up, but if I go into my personal buzztouch account and make changes they show up. Is that because I registered my personal account with the server account?

That's quite alright chrisaseson, we all make these mistakes when starting off. You'll be able to help others when you see their questions now, good learning process. The app you made on 1.5 on the BT server sight cannot be easily transferred to your server solution. That is what the original app can only be updated via 1.5 Control Panel. Make sense?

LOL Thanks Danny for all your help! MacApple - here is the weird thing, I had an old app pre made in 1.5 on BT server and because there is no way to move it over to my server solution, I built it from scratch on my server. I downloaded the zip from my server, followed the instructions and it opens up a mix of both apps. When I make changes on my server nothing happens. When I make changes to the old app on the BT server, it updates the app. Weird right?!

Delete the 1.5 version buddy. Clean download and build on server solution and you should be go. The interweb is a weird place!

I hear you buddy. Glad to hear it is all working, knew it wasn't a code or regular error issue, the code on here is solid, had to something quirky you were doing. Expect you to watch forum now and help others when they, ahem, cough, cough, need help cos they are guys! Welcome to the BEST community for Apps. Nothing like it.

To think, Stephen (our Stephen) finally fixed something! So laughing and kidding of course. Steve's a hero and will surely laugh at this. And, of course his idea just pushed the thread forward. @ chrisasleson: No sorries, really, we've all done dumber things (MacApple once.... hee hee). Stick with it more than a few weeks and you'll be making some cool stuff in no time.

I wish it were only once. Just like the time I misread the PDF for eclipse and tried to insert an aubergine into my ear.

MacApple - I'll for sure help out the more I learn. this forum has been one of the best places I've seen as I read through how everyone helps each other. David - I've already built some really cool apps on the BT Server which is just an indicator of how awesome this is and the work you have put in. Thanks again!
