Plugin update failure?

Okay I just tried to update the login and splash screen plugins in my BT server, and I got an error indicating a problem unpacking the .zip file. But, moments earlier I installed the buttons menu and the image gallery plugins, and those used the zip software on the server, too. The error message suggests a problem with the zip file: Error Un-Zipping Archive? This error is sometimes caused by the type of software that was used to create the .zip archive, it could not be opened. I'm thinking the error is something else, like either a naming problem (the zip itself?) or an overwrite problem in unzipping. Any suggestions on how to diagnose would be helpful. Thanks, Rob

Hmm, assuming this isn't a Windows server I'm not sure what you're running into. When you upload the plugin the control panel unpacks the .zip and inspects it's contents. If it cannot unpack the .zip archive it shows this message. This is usually an issue with Windows machines (which are not supported but some folks are trying to get it running on Windows). If some plugins update but others do not, I would be suspicious of the original package and how it was compressed. But wait, if you're updating the Login and Splash screen packages you downloaded from the plugins page on BT.com (not a third party site), they were packaged the same way as the others so it should work. Strange. Stay tuned for a bit, I'll try updating the same plugins on a few testing servers and see what happens...

Hi again... tested and updated several packages, including Login and splash. My server updated without any troubles. Not sure what to think.

Yeah, let me provide you with the details as I know them. 1) I am hosted at hostmonster.com on a linux/apache server. 2) I was wondering whether the name of the zip file was relevant to the situation since the (1) was added to the end of the filename when I downloaded the update. I didn't remove that before uploading to the BT server, from my Mac. 3) I notice that the temp directory has folders for the 2 failed updates, already unzipped files located inside each. maybe an authority issue with replacing files in the plugins directory?

HI rgtichy, I guess that the big problem relies on the name of the zipfile. Please try to delete the (1) in the name (name it like the original). I could be wrong but think it solves your update problems Best Regards, Danny

Yes! It was the fact that the files ended in (1).zip that caused the updates to fail. I suppose it has more to do with the space character than the parentheses. Evidently the filename carried thru long enough for the unzipping to work, but something else stopped after that?
