Measuring interest (from BT gang)...

We've been working on a new site look, layout, functions, forum for quite awhile and hope to get this rolled out sooner than most folks realize. About the new forum....kindly reply with an indication of your level of interest for a Google Chrome Extension that would alert you with an icon in the toolbar when one of the forum posts you subscribed to has a new comment. Of course you'll need to be running Chrome to get this but it looks like a very large portion of our audience is already (about half) so it could be super useful, or a total waste of time. LOL. Let us know what you think about this idea. Icon with a black zero or icon with a glaring number. Click the icon and show the lastest remarks without visiting the site. Something like the way Google PLUS (or circles, not sure what it's called anymore) does when you mouse over. Blah, blah, just wondering... Lastly, because we are hell bent on keeping this thing as close to free as we can, we are always thinking of ideas to cover the costs. So far all of you have been 100% immune from these ideas and cost covering measures we do without you realizing (it's called tons of work, funny). We may be able to make a few bucks using this little pop-up window. Reply with your feeling about this little indicator showing a sponsor (hopefully not a generic ad) above your remarks in the pop up window. We could do the same type of thing when new apps are approved, etc. Just an info window without visiting the site. 1) Would a Chrome Extension be useful for you (showing forum posts at first, to be extended later to show more about your account, new apps, etc)? 2) Would you be adverse to the extension being sponsored by a commercial or ad? Thanks as usual...

Hi David, Thanks for the update and tons of work. Looking forward to see the new changes. 1) if so many users use chrome I think it would be a (very) helpfull button but you're also gonna recieve questions about an extension for other browsers. On the other hand I think you'd better use the time to develop buzztouch (plugins) and improve/extend this: that would be more suitable for users --> a good forum and notifications are neccesary but in the end it's the buzztouch-software that everyone is using and looking for. 2) Think you SHOULD make some bucks on this and if this is the way (advertising), maybe it's a good idea to implement it. But there should be a way to pay for a (server)licence or something like it to get rid of the adds. EDIT: Guess I was wrong: Thought the ads where for buzztouch but understand now that it has to do with the chrome extension. Best Regards, Danny

I'd be very satisfied to use a Chrome extension to follow the BT forums. I do not care a bit about having the extension sponsored by ads! After all, that is the business model for many of our apps! I'd love to be able to follow threads without having to log back in to buzztouch.com , since I don't stay logged in 100% of the time.

Looking forward to seeing the new look, good stuff. A notification might be cool, yeah. I use Safari though but might make me go back to the old Chrome, still use FF for a few things so do move around browsers. No issues with this or anything else on the site being supported by ads. The dozen or so sites I visit regularly, several times a day, are all supported by ads so see no reason why you guys shouldn't implement something.

I say go for the ads, i think most people are pretty used to ads popping up even on paid sites. :)

Hi David, 1) I think having this Chrome extension is a good feature, but not essential. I still track the topics I posted on by following the link in the email alert I receive. So I guess that depending on the feedback you'll receive here you have to decide if it worth your time or not. 2) As for ads, yes, no problem with me, go for it ;) BR, Vali

Ads? Go for it. Are you hoping that people will lose their banner blindness, or will you be using a service such as adf.ly to get paid for every clickthrough? What about ff, ie, safari extensions too?

I really dont use Chrome for any of my development. If I did I still dont think there would be a big benefit for me. Since we are in the business of developing apps we are either tied to our computers or mobile phones and I already get an email when someone responds to one of my questions. Second, i'm not big on ads to be honest. If i were to use the plugin, I would purchase it (no different than buying something on the app store). Just my 2 cents

Funny that this should come up now, as I just switched over to Chrome during the weekend! Never realized how speedy and nice it was! I would love a toolbar notification of forum responses, and I am not adverse to ads at all if it helps support Buzztouch. Rock on! Mark

Sounds like a great idea! I would be totally for having ads in the notification icon pop-up. Like @rgtichy said, it is what a lot of our apps are based on!

Hi David, I think it would be hard to track all the replies from this post so I put together a little poll. Here is the link: http://host1.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=4f033509c2e1b0e4ff57c294 My vote is already in there. I hope it helps. Tell me if you need any other possible answers in there. Good luck, Vali

Go for both of them man, especially the ads because the more money you make the more money and work that will go into buzztouch!

Chrome Extension sounds useful, I sure would like to be able to view new posts on the go with my device. Sponsor ads wouldn't be a bad thing at all , Bring em Seems like an official BT APP for android would be most beneficial to me. I would even pay for that!

I love Chrome and I 100% support your use of ads. They don't bother me in the slightest. I can't wait to see what you got cooking!

Maybe do a Paid Supporter spot to the forum. Maybe give us insight to whats coming up, testing...etc. Just a thought. I know I would like to help support where I can. Throw some cash in your guy's PayPal.

Hi David - thanks for all your hard work. I don't think a chrome extension for that functionality is worth time developing. Personally, I receive email alerts when my post gets a reply, and since I'm always on email (phone, g+, etc) it's pretty speedy for me anyway. Thanks!

Hi David Firstly any form of revenue return would be fair but targeted ads would be the most logical. Secondly I think any royalties from the Novice App Diary should go to BT once we reveal that JK Rowling is the real author.
