Getting started for Android

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum. I'm Herman and I live in The Netherlands. I got a few questions, hope you don't mind. My laptop computer runs Windows Vista 32 bit. Q1 Which packages to install at Android SDK, Android Repository and Android Platforms Tools will do the job? Q2 Do I have to install Java SDK SE7U2? I assume I have though I'm not sure yet. Q3 Eclipse Classic 3.7.1 or other version? Thanks in advance for your replies! Best regards, Herman

Hi, I think this document under the help tab will answer all your questions. Whilst this is specific to Windows XP I don't think it will really be different http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.2.pdf Jonathan Hamon

Hi Herman, Welcome to Buzztouch! The document @jonathan pointed you to should answer all your questions, and is relevant to Windows Vista as well. Make sure for Java that you get the Java Developers Kit (JDK), and not just the JRE. Let us know if you have any other questions! We're here to help! Mark

Hi Jonathan and Mark, thanks for your replies which are highly appreciated by me. I have taken a seat aboard at Bizztouch. And I must admit it feels well. I will download the PDF document, if any questions left I will post here again. Oh, another question, does this forum have search options, for example for threads I have started, joined etc? Best regards, Herman

Hi Herman, Unfortunately, you can only search the forums based on forum title. I've heard that people have worked around this by doing a Google search with 'buzztouch' and the question in the search. But overall, this forum structure is rather limited...but they say they're working on it! Mark

Hi, I have emailed buzztouch earlier today offering to host the forum for FREE on better forum software like phpbb. I appreciate this would need sometime being spent on moderating but this has full search, PM, etc Jonathan Hamon

Thanks for replying. I'm familiar with forums such as DPR, mu-43.com, seriouscompacts.com, etc. Another setup of forum is absolutely necessary, I like to introduce myself, send private messages, search for tags and threads, suggestion box, off topic, Android, Apple, hardware, software, etc. Thanks Jonathan for your great suggestion, if I were Buzztouch I would be grateful with it. Another Q: is this forum moderated (guess not). Best regards, Herman

I have also set up a wiki, which can be found at btugwiki.com. Feel free to add stuff! Mark
