Copy App feature (should NOW be viable for the server?)

A long time ago there were many threads asking if there would be a possible copy button to copy apps in your control panel and then further edit them, IE, this would make some app making go faster, would make pro version of apps easier and faster to make ect. I think David was the one to explain that there is already a huge amount of server load on buzz without a bunch of (I think he termed it wild apps) going around in the buzz database making things big and cramped. But now that we have the ability to create our own apps on our own servers, I was thinking, would this feature be able to come for us? This would only cram OUR databases and not yours, thus, removing the problem of the past of the copy app feature. What do you think? It would be very useful for some, including me! David.

Yup, makes perefect sense. It's been on the list for a very long time. Maybe you can get the .php script created... Here's how it should work... a) Create an upload script so you can upload a BT_config.txt file to 'import' the app. b) Parse this JSON data during this update process...when parsing... create... -a new app in the db, it should be owned by the person uploading it. -a new directory structure for the app in the /apps folder (writable by php) -a new screen for every screen in the uploaded JSON -new tabs for every tab in the uploaded JSON -new themes for every theme in the uploaded JSON -new child items (buttons, images, quiz questions, map locations) in the db (associate them with the correct parent screen) for every child item in the JSON. Be sure to give the new app and all the database records a new unique id. Be sure the 'right button load screen' and the 'menu load screens' and the 'button load screens' and the 'tab home screens' point to the newly created guid's. They are still pointing to the old id's from the JSON that's being uploaded. We'll post it in the How_To's and share it when you're done.

I can almost guarantee that I wouldn't be able to do this - but perhaps with the post you made above someone will see this and might be able to lend a hand. Anyways, glad it's on the list at least! Thanks for the response David, as usual. David.
