In help you'll find a link to a pdf on setting up Eclipse. Well worth the read. The videos are a bit dated, but still helpful.

Hey Fred & Mark: th;anks for helping me. I've got the pdf from the url you gave - I'm stuck on page 14 (out of 22) I'm at the part where I've successfully downloaded everything he said & now on page 14 setting up android keystores is a bit overwhelming - I'm trying to follow the directions (including the link he gave on the release key) but still can't quite understand. any more tips & sage wisdom?

Give this doc a try, and let me know if it helps! Otherwise, let us know exactly where you're stuck. http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Signing_Android_Apps_v1.0.pdf Mark

Fred: the wordpress How to create your Keystore looked great, but I'm stuck at the fact that you create the keystore when you are ready to publish & I'm not at that stage yet. I have to get eclipse & android sdk to merge 1st so I can create an APP 1st. I couldn't find the create a keystore button anywhere on the eclipse menu or the android sdk menu, so this maybe helpful down the road. Mark: the pdf form on the debug.keystore is probably where I need to be but can't find the file. It's not in the default path they gave. I ran a search for debug.keystore in the C drive & came up with nothing. what does this mean? I didn't download something properly?

Hi DrLibby, If you follow this doc - http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Signing_Android_Apps_v1.0.pdf - you'll find an option to create a debug.keystore if it doesn't already exist. Just follow the steps for exporting your app in debug mode (debuggable=true in AndroidManifest.xml), and choose the option to create a debug keystore. Let me know if you still have problems! Mark

Your debug keystore is created automatically. If you don't use virtual device, having the debug keystore wouldn't matter (plus it's there anyway). Just get Eclipse working, create your project, export (create keystore during export) & be happy.

Hi Fred & Mark: now that the holidays are done I can focus again. I have a screenshot of where I'm at but not sure how to upload here - copy/paste doesn't work here. I skipped the debug/keystore issue as the default passwords should be there & I will worry about it when I’m done w/ an APP & need to export. So I’m close but no cigar. I'm on page 21 of http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.2.pdf - my screen doesn't look like theirs. I don’t have the Google APIs 2.2/8 installed & don’t know where I should go To get it so that it shows up properly. Any Suggestions? Libby

Are you able to run the virtual devic.e, if so it's there. Not sure where, but just knowing it's there is good to know.

Hi @Paula Mae, You can actually create the debug keystore when you do an export of your project to an APK file. Here's a document that explains all that: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Signing_Android_Apps_v1.0.pdf Mark

Mark, if I'm not mistaken, the release keystore is created when you export the 1st time. Afterwards you select it (or create a new one if needed). The debug keystore is created (automatically) some where in the install process so that Eclipse has a keystore for the virtual device. Fred

Hi @Fred, It might be. The first time I had to figure out where it was, it was already there, and I don't think I had exported a project yet...but it's been quite some time. There are ways you can do it via the command line (just Google Android debug key), and I may have done it that way...again, quite some time ago. But I do know that you can create a new debug keystore, or use an existing one, when exporting your Android project. So, at the worst, @Paula could create a new one. Mark

@fred i havent tried doing so. i was more problematic in generating my api key since it is needed. i have already searched for it. even showed hidden files but i didnt find anything. it shouldve just automatically been generated but for some reasons it isnt. i need the debug keystore because i need to run my code in a virtual device. but i will try what you suggested and see what happens. thanks! @mark: thanks for the link mark. ill go ahead and check on it. im not really sure if i can use the release keystore for the avd though.
