3D container for iOS

Hi, Does anybody know of a HTML container for a 3d object that I could implement in an iOS app? Thanks, Vali

Hi Vali, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a container. Are talking about a way to display a 3d object (Maya, Lightwave, 3DS, etc) in such a way that you could view it from all directions? If so I'm not aware of one, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist. If you can't find one I would recommend rendering out a video Where your camera rotates around your object in such a manner that you highlight whatever you feel is the important part of your object.

Hi Parker, You are spot on. I want to display a 3D object, but make it interactive too, so the user can rotate the object around its center. There are some ways to do this for a general browser, but I don't know for iOS. I will look into it and post here if I find anything.

Hi, You can use a 3D engine, like Unity or UDK to create an interactive virtual environment. They can create apps directly from the software and they have free version but I don't know if and how you can put them in a buzztouch app. I'm looking too for a way to do something similar. Hope this help and if you find a way please let me know!

@ marco.o, Those both look awesome! I remember doing an Unreal Tournament 2004 mod back in my undergrad days and something like UDK would have made life a whole heck of a lot easier. I think we had something similar, but not nearly as powerful/flexible. Still not sure how to integrate something like that into buzztouch, or how to take that interactive environment and put it into an HTML doc, but looking at these two dev tools is a good place to start. Good heads up.

Hi again, I guess I found what are we looking for. It is called Object2VR - http://gardengnomesoftware.com/object2vr.php What you need to do is: In your 3D software of choice render the 360 spin and save each frame to a different image. I used the default in 3ds max and the output was set for 100 JPGs. Now you need to import those JPGs inside Object2VR and generate an HTML5 output. It will create some files. Now grab these and put them on a server somewhere. Next create a custom URL page that will point to the html file and you're done. I need to tweak it a little bit more to get the correct sizes for the renders and the output from O2VR and I guess we're all set. For example put this link in a custom URL page and you will see my first try. http://www.second-skin.ro/7/tea0000.html BR, Vali LE: You can even use multiple layers so you will not be restricted only to vertical drag. See the info and tutorials from the site for more examples.

2 things: 1- @ Parker: I'm glad you liked both of them. I'd really like to integrate interactive virtual environments in buzztouch, it would be great, maybe we can work on this.... 2- @ vali: another solution can be using a PDF file. PDF can handle 3D data and let you manipulate a 3D object i.e. pan, rotate and zoom it as you wish. It is used a lot in engineering, so try to google it. Moreover I think that it can be quite easy to put In a buzztouch project. If you want I can give you more informations about that. Keep on working on this guys, I strongly believe that 3D in apps will be very useful in the near future!
