Might have found a bug

Ok I have multiple warnings ( little yellow exclamation yield signs) apparently that's why my android app is crashing upon loading on a device. Anyway I wonder I have several menus and custom texts in the layout. In the custome text it asks for menu text and I put Scuba Gear, and in the page title I put the same Scuba Gear, then down below I enter the page text. Could it be that having the same menu and page title name is causing the problem?

Hi, If this is crashing when running in the simulator, can you show us the output from the console? Here's a document that shows you where the console is: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Problem_Reporting_and_Basic_Debug_v1.0.pdf Thanks! Mark

I hope you're performing surgery, and not having surgery! In any event, just post it here when you get a chance. We're not going anywhere! Mark

HI forney! as mark stated above I too Hope that you are perfoming surgery and not receiving it! I just wanted to suggest something. When you post in the forum about specific issues, you should try not to create a new post when responding to your original post. (Android crash on opening) Everyone who wants to help you subscribes to your post (little box bottom left hand corner), and we receive an email whenever you or any other member adds to your post. This way makes it easier for us to see all of the suggestions made thus far and offer new ones if possible! If you create a new post every time you respond to your original post, your original feedback gets lost in the list of many posts! Anyhow, May things go well with giving or receiving surgery. like mark said, Were not going anywhere!

Yellow exclamations don't usually have a huge impact on the app and they can usually compile with no problems. Highlight your project, then go to the tabs along the top of eclipse and choose Project > Clean. See if that helps. Also, making sure that the android plugins in eclipse are upto date helps. In eclipse, find the 'android sdk manager' icon (android icon + a down arrow) and make sure that everything in there is upto date also.

Hey TraceCampbell! Your images show the console wich is cool, but you should open up logcat and then install on virtual device. After you install your app on the virtual device and the console says success, then you want to switch over to logcat instead of your console. Your console lets you know of errors prior to installation and logcat is going to show you every action or intent you perorm after that! so if your app crashes when you select Bariatric, Logcat will reveal the error at in real time!! Logcat is what you need to be looking at in your situation. The easiest way to pull up log cat is to look at the bottom left hand corner of eclipse. There should be a icon with a plus next to it. click that icon and select logcat! It should pop up right next to your project browser. From there you can drag it wherever you want it.

Gotcha! It we be nice for you to have a friend with a droid come over just to see what logcat says. Anyway, make sure debuggable is set to false in the manifest before you build and release to public. If I think of anything else ill let you know.

I also noticed that while I have downloaded and set up everything up in eclipse that my android ask and the manager are not together, rather they are on separate lines does this create a problem?

The import warnings can be deleted from the project as they're not used (as long as they all say 'never used' at the end - I can't see them all). If you ever modify the app and the new code needs any of the deleted imports, eclipse will prompt you and re-import it. I can't see the whole line for the rest of the warnings. As has been mentioned a couple of times in the thread, if you post the logcat output, it will highlight the exact problem. If you haven't been able to find it, try this location: Window > Show view. If it's not in the dropdown list, select 'other' at the bottom, then > Android > LogCat It'll open in the bottom view and you'll be able to save the output to a text file or paste it directly here. If you look in the logcat console when you're running the emulator until it fc's, look for the first line of red text, that should be the problem.
