Question to Buzztouch folks: Are you guys far from HTML5 integration

Hi there; Any news on the HTML 5 implementation? Will this happen before Windows Phone 7? Thanks M.

Dunno really. FOR SURE before WP7 but have no idea on when. It's a matter of balancing all the interest and developing where the audience wants us to. Today, it's 10-5-.001. iOS, Android, All the others. In other words, two-to-one iOS over Android and almost no other interest on any other platform.

Any closer on html5? It would seem Apple is becoming more and more picky about the apps they will publish on iTunes. I have had more apps rejected than approved as of late. Last I heard Apple was down to about a 20% approval rating.

I've heard the same thing, apple's surely doing the best they can to tighten up the quality of the apps the approve. HTML5 is a reasonable approach for many of our site visitors and for sure we look forward to making headway in that area. The biggest challenge for some of our users is understanding that exploiting the app store's audience, marketing, and power is simply not a good enough reason to put together an app that should otherwise be a web app. Trouble is, most of them don't know the difference and just want to be 'in the app store.' Funny how that works. Dear Apple, please expand the beloved App Store and begin allowing HTML5 apps along with native apps then do an amazing job of marketing the HTML5 apps just like you did the native apps. Reduce the approval process complexities, make it clear to your end users that there 'is a difference' and all will be well ;-)

Hi David, Does your comment about the App Store allowing HTML5 apps mean that if I use HTML5 tags in my app, it will be rejected? Thanks, Chris

HTML5 tags are not the issue. HTML itself is not the issue. The issue is that if you create an app for the App Store it's assumed that it takes advantage of native iOS features, concepts, and code. This does not mean you can't use any HTML content. Mostly what it means is that if you build an app that could easily be created using HTML, there's no sense is packaging it up and uploading it to the App Store. Make an HTML web app instead, it's much easier. Of course we all undersand the benefits of using the App Store for marketing, exposure, cool factor, etc. This is what Apple fights against everyday, they do not want folks to make simple, web-centric apps then package them as iOS app to literally take advantage of their distribution methods. They for SURE look at this way, 'why should we put this in our app store, it's not a native iOS app, it's a mini website.' Debates are everywhere about this idea. My opinion was an effort to explain that I totally understand their position and wish they would allow html, mini-pages web apps in their market and wish they would separate these from the native apps so folks don't get confused and understand what they are downloading / buying / using. Bottom line: Make a good app that uses native iOS functionality (this may include html, that has zero to do with whether or not it's a native app or not) or don't bother submitting to the App Store.

Hi there I was the one that started this thread and the only reason why I posted was because I felt that BT being such a terrific system to develop native apps, would be fantastic for html5 apps, and I also inquired because it is in BT's roadmap. I am interested in creating html5 not because Apple's policies may be strict, but just because I think that html5 apps are necessary, even when a an iPhone or Android version of the same app exist. With that being said, I understand the frustration that some BT users my feel when they can't have their apps approved, but Apple is still approving lots of apps {personally I never had an app rejected]. I can't give advise to anyone but try to come up with something that will be useful, takes advantage of native capabilities and make an effort when it comes to designing a pretty UI. M.
