Oracle Java SE Developement Kit

On your frequently asked page it shows I need to download Eclipse software to do Android apps. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html When I try to download the Android SDK, it detects if I have an JAVA SE DEV kit and since I do not it has a button to send me to java.oracle.com. At that site it has several JAVA SE Downloads. So my question is, do I need to pay the big bucks to download one of these? If I want to learn how to do phone apps and create one, what kind of cost am I looking at for any software that I must download? regards, KleeJ

Hi KleeJ, Everything you need for Android development is free! Check out this document : http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.1.pdf It tells you exactly what you need, where to get it, and how to set it up. Welcome to Buzztouch! Mark

I'd also encourage you to sign up for the v1.5 Early Adopter program...much more feature rich than v1.4 : http://www.buzztouch.com/account/account_earlyAdopter.php Mark

Excellent! The important thing to keep in mind here is that you need the Java Development Kit (JDK), and not the Jave Runtime Engine (JRE). If you are using a Mac, OS X comes with what you need already, and you don't need to download anything. Thanks! Mark

The finished app can be put anywhere. You can email it, put it on a website, or into one the Android markets, like the Google or Amazon ones. That is for Android only. iOS apps have to go through the iTunes Store. To develop your app, you don't need BT Server...you can use the services of buzztouch.com to develop your app, and never, ever, have to use BT Server! Does that help? Mark

No server required until you've ready for BTv2.0. Read, read & read some more. Also the search function is very helpful.
