Is a Mac Mini good enough for developmet?

Hello everyone! I have been using my PC to create Android apps for awhile (thanks to buzztouch!) But I am looking into getting into ios development because as all of you know that is where the money is at. Unfortunately I do not currently own a Mac and my attempts to run OS X in a virtual box have failed. So I am here to ask if the cheapest Mac mini has the specs to handle X-code and such?

Yes, as long as it has an Intel CPU.

That's what I use as well! Single processor with 2GB memory...works perfectly! The great thing is that you can also do Android development on your Mac, so it serves double duty! Mark

In order to run XCODE 4.x you need LION but XCODE 3.x runs on Snow Leopard so keep that into account when shopping for an older cheaper mac mini - most wont run Lion i myself am curious how long Buzztouch will work with XCODE 3.x that's what im running on a hackintosh box

Actually, you can run Xcode 4.x on Snow Leopard, which is what I do. Lion is NOT required for Xcode 4.x! Thanks, Mark

Interesting. I just read the XCode rel notes and they do say Xcode 4.2 Release Notes Installation You can install Xcode 4.2 for Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard only if you have purchased an earlier release of Xcode. Install or update Xcode through the Purchases or Updates panes. so maybe i can load 4.2 on Leopard! i just did the xcode download of 3.2 from the app dev site, they didn't require me to purchase it. i'll try to update that and repost if sucessful.

Any from the apple store (new or referb) I have an older 2.53 gh with 4gb of ram... It runs great for this stuff. If/when i get my next apple i'm getting a mac air or mac book pro so i can develop on the go.

As long as it's an Intel processor Mac mini, and not a Power-PC based one, then you should be OK. I'm running a single core, 2GB of memory with a 50GB HD, and it runs just fine for me. It doesn't have to be a super-duper Mac in order to run Xcode. Mark
