New to Buzztouch, do I need Eclipse?

I am very new to Buzztouch, I feel comfortable with the Apple side of things but now need to figure out the Android side. I do not have Eclipse on my Mac and after doing some research it sounds like I need Android Studio to build Android apps. I would like to get Eclipse on my computer since that is what Buzztouch specifically works with. Am I able to still download Eclipse from somewhere or am I out of luck? Also, from what I've seen it sounds like Eclipse has a pretty big learning curve compared to Xcode. What are some good resources to use as far as compiling an Android app and getting it ready for Google Play? Thanks in advance.

from what ive read,Android Studio is going to be replacing eclipse for android developing, while eclipse still works, i believe they are discontinuing adt,s connected with eclipse and we will all have to jump over at some stage, while your just starting in android, i would go straight for Studio, fingers crossed , they have managed to iron out some of the annoying inconsistencies connected with eclipse, there are many, many very helpful people on here, and whatever problems or difficulties you stumble across, don't worry, the buzztouch community will guide you along, Ive been here for 18 months, with 10 published apps in both stores, all thank to these guys, so dig in and enjoy the ride :) Sean ps all the software you need for android ie Studio and Eclipse is free to download and use. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html https://eclipse.org/downloads/

Hello @Hunter90, Welcome to Buzztouch! Eclipse is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that can do many things with many different types of coding. For Buzztouch, you need to pair Eclipse with the Android SDK (Software Development Kit) in order to make things work. You "could" use Android studio to compile your apps, and it works just fine. I have a video that shows how to do that: http://youtu.be/LsLTfaajeqg I can't believe I'm about to say this, but you being new to Buzztouch and Android, it might be best to start with Android Studio. Eventually...probably sooner than later...Buzztouch will transition it's file structure to better accommodate Studio. So, check out the video and give it a shot. If you want to go the Eclipse route, which is also good, you'll want the Eclipse ADT Bundle. Google pulled it from their site when they finally released Studio, but people have archived it. You can find it here: http://enos.itcollege.ee/~jpoial/allalaadimised/AndroidSDK/ Personally, I find Eclipse/Studio to be much easier than Xcode, which has all the stupid certificate stuff. But that's just me. I have a YouTube channel that should help you out on the Android side: https://www.youtube.com/user/gonorthwest Again, welcome to Buzztouch! Don't hesitate to shout if you have any questions! Mark
