buzz server install problems

after step 2 has completed (I see the check mark) and hit next, I get a This webpage is not available error. not sure why! I have entered the correct database info and the urls, the checkmark shows in the red border, the database is unicode correct. I reuploaded the files and tried again, same thing, when checking if files/ was 755, it was. currently my domain is setup like this: domain.com/install/ (I did not upload it as domain.com/BT-server/) any help would be greatly appreciated, I am willing to do Team Viewer or give my database details for you to check it out. Thanks! David.

Just my two cents, but it doesn't make much sense to me to have your root folder be called install. That means when people connect to your BT server, they connect to something like mydomain.com/install, which is kinda weird. You don't need to use the default BT-server folder...I call mine btserver, but I might suggest something different than install. If you want the primary interface of your domain to be BT Server, then just install all the files to the root folder. Otherwise, something more descriptive for the installation folder. Just a thought! Mark

Hey Mark, the files were not in /install/ I directly took the files into my root, no /BT-server/. for example: public_html/domain.com/acount/ public_html/domain.com/admin/ public_html/domain.com/api/ ...... ect public_html/domain.com/config.php ..... ect so they would have accessed the site as domain.com and just for installing for me would be domain.com/install I did not want the entire site in a folder, I wanted it in the root - hopefully I said it better now :) gbakakos did Team Viewer with me - and he was a great help! friendly guy, helped me fix the issue ASAP (apparently I HAVE to have a folder for the files, and not have them in root as above :( ) Thank you gbakakos! David.

Cool...glad you got it worked out! I'll have to check on the root folder thing...no reason you shouldn't be able to install there. Mark

I verified with the guys at BT that it should work in your root domain folder. As long as everything in BT-server folder is unchanged, it can go anywhere, and into any folder you choose (even into a BT-server folder!). So, something else must be amiss if it's not working in the root folder. Mark

Sounds like all is well. For sure it can go anywhere it wants to go but does need to be self-cotained inside it's own folder. The folder can be renamed, like instead of /BT-server it could be /appbuilder or /controlpanel just /cool. Glad it's working ;-)

Hmmm weird.. until we did it in the root folder it would not work, perhaps just something I did wrong. Instead, I did a small loop hole, I made it mydomain.com/server/ but it shows as server.mydomain.com looks better to me that way at least - I will try it in the root one more time on another site to check if it works and I'm just being stupid :) David.

Not being dumb, it gets confusing. It looks to me like something isn't being uderstood though. There is a HUGE difference between a URL like: server.mydomain.com and mydomain.com/folder name. The first case is called a sub-domain. The second case is a folder within the top level domains root. You'll need to get your head around this idea or you'll continue to get confused. Happens to me all the time, hard has heck to keep it all straight. Just drag the folder in your /root domain then rename the folder. That's all it takes. But, if unzip all the contents in the BT-server folder, then add individual files and folder to the /root you'll have all sorts of issues. Just keep it all in a folder, all you need to do.

Ahhh. I am just wondering because GoNorthWest here just said he did it successfully however, so a tad confused on my end :( (but really no big deal, my server is online and working now anyways!) As always, love the great and fast support, Thanks, David,

Hi David, I was able to install it in a folder under root that was NOT called BT-server. I called mine btserver, but copied everything as-is from the BT-server folder we download. I have not tried to install to root folder yet. My setup looks like www.mydomain.com/btserver/ Mark

Oh, I misunderstood! Maybe in the instructions, a small note such as: Make sure its in a folder, and not installed in root, would be useful for some. ;p Take care, David.

It works fine for me in the root, not contained in any folder. Are there any underlying reasons why it should be contained in a folder beyond the problems highlighted here?

There should be no issues with it not being in a folder, so long as the file structure that resides in BT-server folder remains intact. I was just confused by a comment that David from Buzztouch made, that suggested it had to reside in a folder (though it could be named anything). I guess you have proven that it doesn't! Thanks, Mark

There isn't anything magic going on here. It's just a matter of where the links are pointing. Example: If you're on the BT-server/index.php page and point to a file in the BT-server/account folder, the file needs to exist in that folder. Typical HTML path stuff. It's a matter of all of us thinking and saying the same thing but using different terms to describe it. 'In the root' could mean all sorts of stuff. LOL. If you want to show the URL to your site with NOTHING past the address, but show the bt server login page, you'll need to put the index.php file and everyting else in the root folder in the root of your domain. Like... http://www.site.com/index.php http://www.site.com/config.php http://www.site.com/LICENSE.txt http://www.site.com/README.txt Then, the other folders would be... http://www.site.com/account http://www.site.com/admin http://www.site.com/images http://www.site.com/files etc.. etc.. etc.. There is no reason this would not work. BUT, it's important to understand that in this case, whatever you use for your sites home page will be overwritten with the index.php page from the contorl panel software. Hope this helps. Oh, lastly, I say it needs to reside in it's own folder because we get dozens and dozens of 'it won't work' emails becuase folks don't understand this. The same folks that claim to be 'comfortable installing web hosted software' - funny. Anyway, it's easier to just say 'keep it in a folder' than it is to try to explain, teach, educate folks that don't know how their boxes are setup. You guys do, it'll be fine in the root, outside a folder, if you keep the other folders intact.

See I setup up a whole new website/server for bt-server, so nothing to overwrite, you would have to be pretty new at this to accidently overwrite your website files with bt server without knowing it. I feel like this is a CMS, not a server, CMS is easier to comprehend what this really is (sounds more user friendly for new people too). This is a funny thread indeed :P

figured the first part out had to use the link http://www.mydomain.com/mydomain.com/BT-server/install But now I get the following errors Warning: require_once(config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/pledgec1/public_html/mydomain.com/BT-server/index.php on line 1 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/pledgec1/public_html/mydomain.com/BT-server/index.php on line 1

Sorry I was busy this week. Lets see... Make sure buzztouch Server API URL is http://www.buzztouch.com/api/ Your registration secret is the secret password you used to regster for the key on buzztouch, the most likley problem is that your entering the wrong password. Also make sure you entered the right: This servers IP ADDRESS is: ***** This servers HOST NAME is: **** (this info can be found from where you validate your key in the panel) all else fails, make a new key (try)

Hi gang... for sure @David is right. The validation process simply checks the value of the KEY in the control panel you enter against the key you enter at buzztouch.com. Could it be that something else is not right? Like David mentioned...password? Key? URL? The values on your site must match the values in your panel. If they do, and it will not validate, maybe something else is wrong. Do this as a test: Click the 'check for updates' in the Admin > Maintenance screen. Does this work? If it does, your backend is capable of contacting our backend. If it does not, you've got other issues. FYI: Your panel uses a package called CURL to make these calls to our backend. This means CURL must work on your linux server. 99.9% do. If you don't have CURL working on your server the API key will not validate and you will not be able to build apps. Checking for updates Is an easy way to see if CURL is working.

Thanks I did a lot of copy and paste (no typing) to ensure that there were no typos. Copied key straight from buzztouch site. even changed password on buzztouch and tried it after reloading website. I thinking that my host name is wrong because of the issue I had above but cant change it. The error that I get when I run check update is as follows: Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$latestVersion in /home/pledgec1/public_html/mydomain.com/BT-server/admin/maintenance_AJAX.php on line 149 This software needs to be updated Your server is running v2.1.5 and the most current version available is v Download the most current version from buzztouch.com then upload it to your website. You will be overwriting all directories and files EXCEPT the /files directory. After uploading the new version you will need to go through the installation process again. The installation URL will be http://www.yourdomain.com/BT-server/install/. The installation process will not overwrite existing values in your database or existing files in the files directory. I think its because I need to change my host name to www.mydoamin.com/mydomain.com because of my earlier issue, instead of the current www.mydomain.com How do I jut change the host name associated with the key? If I wanted to make a new key how would i do that I tried but it wouldn't create a new one because I have an existing key. Can I delete the original one, how?

Thanks but how do we do that? I'm thinking I may need to delete my current install and re-install BT server one level higher on my host and see if that fixes this issue. I think this may be the root (get it, lol) of the problem, so I will try that first. Then if that doesn't work I would appreciate your help with the TeamViewer setup. Ill let you know, probably wont be able to do much with it until Friday.
