Any thoughts on how to promote apps?

Hey all! I have started the task of promotion for my new app and have seen a lot of sites offering reviews for free but a long waiting list or the option to pay for reviews. Has anyone had any luck with any specific sites? The app I am marketing is a new toddlers app. Thanks! Kevin

I'd say don't use paid review sites, Apple frowns on this and there have been some high profile cases in the past. Try setting up a corresponding Twitter account and send out relevant Tweets, that helps. You have a website? Facebook page? Linkedin company page? Hit as many avenues as you can. Good luck.

Here in Nashville there's a whole industry built on selling you the dream that you'll be the next star. They make a lot of money from wantabes, app market is the same. I've seens lots of stars make it big and lots fail, the ones making a living usually paid their dues long before they became and overnighy success. :-)

I am looking into this at present and will provide my findings once they are conclusive. My inital feelings are that any social hubs related to the app are the best way to promote the app. For example - if its a music app then hubs, forum, tweets etc within that arena seem the most effective. I have brought out a career app with guidence on CV's(resume), interview via professional in industry, in istore it is swamped by job agencies apps which are really glorified web links. My stratergy so far is firstly to make a cut down free version to promote app, send app reviews to specific web portals that are involved in jobs and any related parties, promote via website and linked in. I have not completed lite version of app yet to verify effectiveness but will keep forum informed.

@Marko I am curious how your free version and promoting are going? My app is not doing well and I am looking for advice. Thank you.
