Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in ...

Any kind (and patient) wizards out there? Using CPanel. When I try to install the server, the first screen.... domain.com/bt-server/install gets that error. Application PHYSICAL PATH like /var/vhosts/domain/httpdocs/BT-server (not a URL) an dsome jacked-up-looking div or a field, with <br in the field, and this after the field/div thing... Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in ... mypath I am not in familiar fields... never messed with linux, apps, cpanel, sql etc. I am not an app noob, just a noob with this technology. Help! :-)

Not too impressed so far. But not too depressed either ;). The first experience is a crashed install on the first attempt, and it is not a graceful crash. The page is rendered all jacked up. I must have reallly goofed up my install. but I was following the pdf. sql looks like a mine field of of options and knobs. jeez... hard to believe the entire web runs on this stuff. I am familiar with Domino server, which is bad ass and not so rough looking. But I am wayyyyy off topic. Hey its 5 am. Help!!

Hi in Nashville. It's tough to say what you have going on here. For sure it's a bit nerdy to get this installed. We worked pretty hard to make it as easy as possible but a ton of different server combinations make it impossible to know what you're dealing with. If you're not comfortable (you mentioned this was new) you may need to find somebody to help you through this. We wish we could 'impress' you ( you mentioned you were not) but can't help you get a deep understanding of how webservers work. Maybe installing server-side software is a bit over your head? I don't think it is, most folks can figure this out with a bit of effort (you've got that!) and some enthusiasm (you've got that too!).... So..if the /install page won't load, for sure nothing else will. Maybe you can post a screen shot to what you're seeing (DropBox) works good. Not sure. And, if you have isuses with other server sided adjustments (making files writable, etc) you may not get very far without even more frustration. I'm assuming you've seen the installation document. If you aren't comfy with all the steps in that .pdf I for sure would ask your website administrator for help.
