BT-server install screen - Database problems/questions

I am trying to install BT server, and I'll admit I'm not an old hand at this. for the database username, do I need a username in the format of user@domain ? I keep get an error saying There is not a database on this server with that name. You need to create a new, empty database (no tables) before installing this software. But I am certain I have created a DB with the name gttwoapp_BT and a DB user named gttwoapp_BTserv. This when my DB username is entered as gttwoapp_BT If I change the username to include a domain ([email protected] or gttwoapp_BTserv@localhost) then I get an error message that says There was a problem connecting to the database server. Are you sure you entered the proper user credentials? Server is usually localhost, User Name and Password could be just about anything! Ask your server's administrator if you're unsure. I am unsure of what else to look at to try and improve the inputs I am entering at this install screen. I have looked at phpMyAdmin and this is what I see about my DB: Server: Localhost via UNIX socket Server version: 5.1.60-community-log Protocol version: 10 User: gttwoapp@localhost MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)

Okay I looked at the website btugwiki.com and reviewed the install doc that is there and it gave me some general ideas about what I am doing right. The username should just be gttwoapp_BTserv for my install, not user@domain . But the wiki doesn't show the application physical path input box, which did get filled in automatically by the install screen. And my hosting provider (hostmonster) indicates in the mySQL setup area that localhost should be the servername.

after you created the db and the user, did you add the user to the db? Some setups require this step. also, are you on a shared server, or on one of your own computers?

I created a DB user in the mySQL screen where I created the DB. I am installing it at gt2app.com, which is hosted at hostmonster.

ok, it looks like hostmonster uses cPanel. In your control panel, you should click on the mySQL databases icon. That's where you created your database, which would be named yourhostingusername_yourdatabasename After that, you create your db user which is named yourhostingusername_yourDBusername -> and you give that a password. Final step... Below those settings on the mySQL database screen is a dropdown menu to allow you to ADD a DB user to a DB. If you do that, you should see it filled in the box at the very bottom. (Hope some of that makes sense - I can make a screenshot if needed)

AH-HA! Totally missed that little area at the bottom where you add the user to the DB. Thanks! I am off and running... until the next hiccup, of course. Thanks!
