Unable to resolve target 'Google Inc.:Google APIs:8

Hi! I get the following error message after just importing the project and trying to run debug: Unable to resolve target 'Google Inc.:Google APIs:8 Also a little error cross-box shows on the program outline under part src. I am a newbie to java from C# and any help would be great. Cheers,

Further down the line, I checked the cross-box item called andyshelloworld_appDelegate.java and found that the following had an error message stating that they could not be loaded: import java.io.IOException; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.app.Application; import android.content.Context; import android.content.res.AssetFileDescriptor; import android.media.AudioManager; import android.media.MediaPlayer; import android.net.Uri; import android.os.AsyncTask; It seems that as a result the rest of the instructions in the file are also erroring, no doubt due to the lack of imports. Is there some java or Android thing I am not doing, please, only other Android apps fire up OK?

Further down the track I used the Source Import Mananger and this cleared the imports. However I have 422 errors and 17 exclamation mark warnings. Almost all of the BT_ modules have a cross-box. Am I missing an Android component here? If not then something may be seriously amiss with the downloaded source files, with which I think I am going to need some assistance, please?

Hi simulsys, 422 errors, that might be a record. ;) Getting Eclipse up and running is probably one of the trickiest things to do when compiling apps. You're not alone in your struggles. It sounds like part of your problems is that you didn't download and use Google's 2.2 API level 8. Have a look in Window / Android SDK and AVD Manager and see if you see it downloaded. Here is a handy guide for setting up eclipse to get you through the install process: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html

Hi Parker, many thanks for that advice. I had a go with Google 8 and now have the errors down to 100 with 76 warnings. The errors consist of numerous object names followed by ...cannot be resolved or is not a field That suggests I am missing an import or database object of some kind. The warnings are all over the place, with Dead Code, wrong API SDK calls and the field X is never read locally. I am really lost here; if you recognize the error message please advise. I am about to rebuild the downloadable file with a simple I/O and see if I can fire up a Hello World!.

Did you go through the install instructions and get the 'Hello World' test app running?

Hi there! Yes I did use the instructions and I did not seem to get a clean build, it does not compile. For some unknown reason I still get a zillion similar error and warning messages with the Hello World app. My only option is to uninstall-reinstall Eclipse and reinstall the SDK and Plugin. I have no idea to what the error messages refer to, we just don't seem to have these component level problems in C# and I am not yet a Java chap to be honest. Since the errors are all referring to the .java files with a BG prefix I expect there is a library or include file I am missing, possibly to do with databases? I am using Helios Eclipse, with the latest SDK & Plugin. Could that be an issue? Many thanks, Andrew.

Ok well maybe give it a try with Eclipse Classic: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-classic-371/indigosr1 Then just to be safe, in step 4 download everything available. http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html Then when creating a new project select Create Project from existing source > point to your downloaded project. and set the Build Target to Google 2.2 API level 8.
