Buzztouch Server and Users

All setup buzztouch server that is.. A little confused maybe someone can clear this up. The self hosted solution. Is it made so people can build there own apps like on buzztouch. Except on the self hosted server.. I don't see any place that would allow people to create a account ect.

It appears that you have to add users through the Admin Control Panel. Probably a good thing, otherwise anybody who finds your site could sign up and bog down your server! Would be interesting to know if there will be an option for users to sign up like at buzztouch.com. Mark

The API (on your server, not ours) will allow you to create new users eventually. Soon actually. The idea is that you could... a) Create an HTML sign-up form that gathered the needed data then post then make an API request to your server to add the new user. b) Create an iPhone or Android app with simple data entry screen (plugin on our wish list) that also hits your servers API to add the user. c) Create any other method you can think of to do an HTTP post to your API to create the user. Get the idea? You can allow as many users as you want. However, @GoNorthWest is right in that you'll want to be mindful of the volumne. So many factors here. Hardwae, bandwidth, etc. Totally fine to think of this though.

I didn't want to head off and start coding something if it's in the works.. Few things are you thinking users free and paid users? / Billing plug-ins to 3rd party billing systems? David you still have my number drop me a call sometime.

HI, I am very interested in helping to develop a user authentication system for BuzzTouch server. could this be done as a plugin easily? also, I would like a plugin to allow to charge users for a membership for the site. I am not a developer but have a couple I trust to do this for a good deal. What should I show them as far as the API or the plugins, to get them started in the right direction? Once I develop a plugin, can I share it here for everyone to use or possibly even sell it? thanks Jason

Hi in Pensacola: Keep this in mind. Today, when the gang talks about plugins, they are referring to things you add to an APP, not necessary a feature you add to the control panel itself. Your idea does make perfect sense and for sure we understand what you mean. Eventually we can imagine all sorts of plugins, some for Apps and some for control panel. So, creating a registration screen would be super-easy. You have two choices here. 1) Create a simple .php 'register screen' that creates a new user in the database, sends a welcome email, etc. This .PHP page would live 'in' the control panel directory, probably in the /root folder and probably called register.php 2) Wait a few weeks? The control panel software has an /api directory. This directory is limited today and basically only does a few things. We've already begun to improve this /api directory to allow all sorts of additional functions. 'addNewUser()' is a key method that we are adding to the /api in the self-hosted panel. Using the api instead of creating a new web-page in the project itself could be useful in tons of cases. Imagine using the api to create a new user from an entirely different site. Imagine creating a new user from an iPhone app, etc, etc. Tie that idea to tons of other api method calls that the self-hosted panel can/wills support and some really neat things can happen. So, make a page in your isntall to register...or...wait for us to finish the /api/user addUser() method and you'll be well on your way.

very cool! I think I will do both, just to have the experience hehehe. i love the idea of having different types of plugins, some for the apps and some for the control panel itself. thanks for the point in the right direction David, and look forward to sharing my new register page soon hehe.

David, what's the status of the addUser() method or any other registration/authentication systems?
