Self-Hosted, Grandfathered In, and More Questions

Hello, I am operating a business and just like everyone else (including Buzztouch) it is hard to make a price list and than tell customers prices changed dramatically. Self-hosted means it is server that you are hosting on your own webhost correct? If you are grandfathered in, will there be a fee once fees begin? I understand this but I don't want any hidden surprises. Is there a limit as to how many apps you can host, both on the self-hosted and Buzztouch server? The server someone makes sense although I will be the only one accessing it since my clients are not tech-savvy. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

One other question too. Are plugins the new way of doing things? Will you be required to download plugins to have access to the screens?

Hi @cterterian, Self-hosted means you have an account with a company like HostGator or ProHosters, and you run your own BT Server. That means you've installed it and configured it yourself, and are responsible for maintaining and updating it. The other option is to continue to use the services provided by buzztouch at their current website. As I understand it, from an API key perspective, there is no difference. And, for every project you create a code package for, it will require a trip to the current BT servers, and the use of an API key. So, if you want to maintain your own BT Server, and potentially users as well, then self-hosted would be the way to go. Otherwise, you'd be fine continuing to use their servers. And, as I understand it, there will be no charge, ever, for those of us who are grandfathered in. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. And, yes, plugins are the new way of doing things. You'll need plugins for screens that you want to implement, and you'll be free to create plugins for screens that don't currently exists. But, yes, plugins are the future. Mark

I see. Do you know if you are using Buzztouch (not self-hosted) if there is a limit as to how many apps can be created/hosted?

I don't believe there is a limit, at least not at this time. There is little overhead with the actual files associated with the project itself. What costs a lot of storage, and processing power, is when a call is made to package up the project. There is no current limit to that, at the moment, but I think we may see changes to that in the future. Mark

See this: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=1159FC9037D978B06DE0B54 and this http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=4F1B29FE8586F36DE66CAE1 Do not build a business around the FREE model, it makes no sense. As much as we would love to think all will be well and all will be free and all will be available forever, it's not reasonable to build a business or make professional promises to your clients when your service is based on using free tools. Get your own backend running if you want to do this professionally.

Thank you David, that is what I plan on doing once I learn a bit more about this software. I wanted to also compliment you and your team for such a great software program. Your doing an excellent job and I can see this becoming the WordPress of mobile app development - probably because of the whole plugin thing :-)

Michigan - about an hour northwest of Detroit (it's not as dangerous as you may think). I may be moving to LA (the Northridge area) in a couple months though. This Xcode is giving me a hell of a time installing...I realized I need to go watch a few movies and come back.
