Special symbols math ISO ipad

Hi Buzz Touchers I'm building a formulary for my math students. I close to giving up, because I can't find a way to use special math symbols. E.g. how do I make the fraction 5/100 - you know ontop of each other. And if it's so difficult to make such a simple fraction, what about all the advanced equations? I really hope some of you have a great idea. Michael Back Denmark

I have e.g. made a lot of different .doc, .docx and a .html (word converted) files, but I alway end up with nothing or a question mark.

Are they Special Characters (Mac)? (They most likely will not show)

Can you just use HTML markup and build a mobilized, compiled in the app for performance, HTML page? You can get this to feel / look like it's NOT html by manipulating the scroll, background, style. Lots of examples of this. I have no idea what the HTML markup is for math equations but there must be some...right?

Hi guys. Thanks for your time to reply. It's a pity that I have to go down the html-road. I not the best coder. I love the buzztouch way with the minimum of coding. Those html math sympols, doesn't help me much, unfortunately. I need to type a lot above and under a fraction line. I'll try to screen shoot some Word inserted equations, and maybe that'll work. My mac Book pro's screen shots seems to be in a higher resolution than my PC. Is that a good way to go? Screenshot pictures on a iPad and iPhone... hmm... Not convinced it's a good idea. One can easily zoom so the resolution must be quite high. I'm really happy that I've got so many replies so fast. You are great! Thanks again.

Hi Michael, Do you want to build an interactive tool where your students can input data and get the results via math calculations? Or is it just a view based, reference only app? Im thinking you can link PDF files with the formulas. Like here: http://www.mateinfo.ro/formule-matematica-liceu/doc_download/8-tabel-derivate-si-integrale Have a better day, Vali

Another idea...how about a series of images, one to the next to the next, a gallery. Depending on what you're trying to do, I can think of alot of 'learning' that can be done with images in the right order. Swipe for each new topic, etc.

Ok, thanks. Well it's actually just static. I'll like make an app where my student can look up different formulas in math. We have a book version. All Danish students have one, and now I want to make an app where you also can watch a video showing how to use the formula. That's the problem today. They look at the formula i the book and don't always know what to do with it. (They have already made a small number of math video tutorials, which we have podcasted). The next step would be to load those videotutorial right into the app on the student iPads.... I'll try the PDF. That must work. Thanks again.

Ok, Guys. PDF does the trick. I can write the most complicated equations and fractions in word, print it as a PDF, and it works beautifully! I can zoom all the way in and it's still sharp. That's the way I'm going, if linking to video files in the PDF file works well. Thanks for your response. It's really nice to experience your efforts to help others. It gives a new guy like me a chance. See you again soon. Michael

Whoo hoo. Hate to ruin anything as soon as it started getting fun but...you'll have trouble linking directly from the PDF to a video - links in PDF in mobile (ios or android) are notoriously unreliable. I would do this: For each subject or category or video, make a little menu. A main menu could show a sub-menu with a PDF, Video, Learn More, Share with Friends option. This would would good if had a few dozens topics but would get tough to manage with a few hundred. If you have tons of topics you'll end up better off pulling all the data from a backend php script to organize it all. Maybe a bit ahead of you here but just understand that the contorl panel is a manual process...lots of data entry and helps get your ideas in the phone. But, as apps get larger it's usually better to begin thinking about driving screens with files located on a remote server (like your website or a dropbox) so you can update and change without having to dig through hundreds of screen in your control panel -) Ironically, I'm preparing a presentation I'm giving an hour or so. I'm speaking to a bunch of teachers tonight that are trying leverage mobile in the classroom. Sounds right up your alley!

Oh, yes... That's something I'm very interested in. Teachers normally see the mobile phone as a disturbanse in the class room, not a possibility. I got so much great experience with using the mobil phone in a class. The students are use to it, and already knows their way around the little mobil media centre in their pocket. The math video tutorials, book reports or book recommendation (with e.g. photo story 3), mobil as a sound recorder in interviews and so on... And thanks for the heads up about linking from a PDF. Michael
