When do you get paid from iAd?

Hi All, I am thinking on including iAd in one of my apps, and am wondering how you get paid. Do you get paid from it being on for app, or does the ad have to be tapped, then fully load?

Apple pays once a month based on their calendar fiscal month. Also, they pay a month out - it's about 60 days after the actual revenue was generated - just like with app sales. This is from iTunes Connect: Ad revenue is determined by volume of ad requests (impressions), the percentage of those requests that are filled with ads, and the effective revenue per thousand filled impressions (eCPM). You can control the ads that will appear in your apps directly from the Actions drop down in the table below. Monthly payments to you are based on Apple's fiscal month.

Does someone have to tap the ad in order for it to process that the developer should get paid?

Not only do they have to tap the ad, they have to follow through on a pre-defined action, hence the eCPM. If every user clicked the ad, navigated out and took no action on the ad (subscription, app download etc etc), you'd get a $0.00 eCPM. Hope you're not thinking about a clickbot!

So it is not worthwhile to use iAd?

Nobody said that! I've never used iAds, but I know people who do very well with it.

So then why do developers put the iAds on apps, if it is hard to get revenue from them?

If it was easy, everyone would be making a fortune. Everybody goes into internet marketing (or app marketing) thinking they're going to get rich. After 12 months or so, they realise it's bl**dy hard work just to reach minimum monthly payouts. Then they really start learning, researching, testing and refining and it slowly becomes easier. Or they give up.

Ok, so I should test it out, see how much revenue I am making, then if it is not what I am looking for, I should make the app $0.99 instead of free with ads.

test test test! Maybe do a lite version with ads and a more advanced paid version? Or test similar apps but one is paid and another has ads? Or try different ad networks like admob (but admob's hard work too!). Trouble is, there are so many variables like app genre, demographic, even colours and styling, that even two similar apps might perform totally differently.

I will try it out. Do I get iAds on my apps by going down to advertising at the bottom of any of the Menu Screens in BT 1.5?

I haven't had a ton of success with iAds. I only have them live in one app, and it is a steady stream of income, but very small. I'd make more selling the app at 99 cents. However, a friend of mine did very well with iAds when they first came out. Over time the eCPM has dropped and he doesn't do quite as well. As @raveyd said, there are a lot of variables. It's worth testing.
