use native browser to detect phone numbers?

1.4 android I have read and researched but can't seem to get past this. On my custom html pages webview doesn't recognize phone numbers. But when the same html is loaded onto a webpage, the native browser pulls up the device phone dialer. How do I allow native browser to detect phone numbers?

Thanks for your reply but, I've already been thru that. I posted a question at the end of that thread and haven't recieved a response. I have tried all of the different formats of the phone number. I put the same html into a webpage and the phone's browser automatically dials the number. But, when in the application, it will not dial.

This is strange one...android is usually pretty good at detecing number. So, if you're sure the HTML is OK and the phone numbers are formatted in the html markup properly then maybe it's another issue altogether? Is this a wepage from a URL or a webpage from HTML markup. In buzztoucht terms, Custom HTML / Text or Custom URL - big difference. I'm happy to get a look later this afternoon / eve but can't download your project without your permission. I have access to all the projects but need you to post... a) It's OK for buzztouch to download my project for testing b) Post the name of the app as it appears in your control panel - exactly. c) Post the name of the screen that has trouble d) If it's tough to navigate or discover where this screen is in the app, add info as needed. I'll figure it out.

Thanks this has been killing me for about a week. It is absolutely fine for you to download project. Please do! Project name Crystal Coast Deals. Any of the restaurant pages will work for testing. They are all html pages with phone numbers and addresses. To navigate Home>restaurants> atlantic beach>ab ice cream. Or any of the restaurants. I have read numerous posts on bt and other forums and tried all of the formats. Your help is greatly appreciated!

I added the phone number in three different formats to make it a little faster for you to see what's going on. Thanks again

@djatl in ATL: Because the forum breaks the syntax when we post code it almost never works. For that reason I emailed @jwprimo a file with some info. I'll send you the same email / attachment. The fix takes about :30 seconds. It's a matter of copy-pasting a snippet the right .java activity class. In the previous case, it was Screen_CustomHTML because the issue was related to HTML typed in the control panel. When you see the email you'll see where this change is. BUT, keep in mind, that if you're using Screen_CustomURL or WebView (can't remember what the files are called) you'll need ot make the same change in those files too. Basically any of the .java files that use the built in WebView could use the change outlined in the email. Just sent it....

@David Thanks So Much! I was able to use the same adjustments for addresses. Now when an address is clicked, the device prompts user to choose how they want to view it. Sweeet! Thanks Again

Stuck here. Can't get this to work on BT 1.4 or 1.5 I did come across a post that says to look into the ADVANCED SCREEN PROPERTIES of the Custom URL and Custom HTML pages. There is indeed an option in there called 'DETECT PHONE NUMBER/ADDRESS LINKS' I turned this on in both a 1.4 and 1.5 Android APP and downloaed the Source Code and tested in the simulator for both and no luck still... Dave's post here regarding 1.4 however offers some new insight that you have to make the mods in both the Screen_CustomHTML and Screen_CustomURL I'm testing that next....... Dave i'd really be interestd in getting that code fix mailed my way too. I think i did it right from the forum and other post you mentioned. It compiles but it's still not doing what it should. This is the Last thing holding me up, othewise this APP is ready to go. I've already got it up on the droid market but going to have to pull it down if i can;t get this working properly.... seems like such a simple thing.... @djatl in ATL: Because the forum breaks the syntax when we post code it almost never works.
