App rejected - does not take advantage of the iOS platform? Help??

We found the user interface of your app is not of sufficient quality to be appropriate for the App Store. Apps that provide a poor user experience are not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. Specifically, we noticed the app does not take advantage of the iOS platform. It would be appropriate to add iOS specific UI functionality rather than displaying just text and table views. Please evaluate whether you can make the necessary revisions to improve the user experience of your app. Alternatively, you may wish to consider building a web app using HTML5. HTML5 is the major new version of HTML and enables audio and video to play natively in the browser without requiring proprietary plug-ins. Using HTML5, web apps look and behave like native iPhone and iPad apps, and using HTML5's Offline Application Cache, your web apps work even when the device is offline. With web apps, you have flexibility to deliver as much or as little functionality as you desire. If you wish to build an HTML5 web app, you can do so and distribute it directly from your web site. It is not appropriate to resubmit your app to the App Store. To get started with iPhone or iPad web apps, please review Getting Started with iPhone Web Apps. For a description of the HTML elements and attributes you can use in Safari on iPhone, check out Safari HTML Reference: Introduction. To appeal this review, please submit a request to the App Review Board.

Sorry about that. This was the message I got from Apple today about my latest app. I don't understand how it doesn't take advantage of the iOS platform?? Any suggestions, without seeing the app? It has a ton of functionality - a quiz, a countdown timer, and multiple text screens.

Forgot to say - it only took them 11 minutes from the time the app was posted as under review until the time it was denied. This just doesn't seem right. I couldn't really get through all the features of the app in 11 minutes, much less go through the app, make a decision, and then write that decision up and have an email response sent out. I think I'm going to delete this version and resubmit the same app with a 2.0 version or something, and just hope for a different reviewer. Maybe I will do it tomorrow rather than tonight, I dunno. Any suggestions though? If I do resubmit it, do I need to recompile it, or could I just send the same binary to Apple that I sent before? The app basically opens up, and has a menu list. On the menu list are about 9 different rows. An about row, a history row a quiz a row that opens another menu list, that has about 30 different rows, each with text things to do on a certain date a share by Facebook row a share by text row

Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to rejections. I've got one of those troublesome apps right now that was rejected for the same reason. I added a quiz (which usually works) and now got rejected for a different reason. Sometimes it is better to delete and resubmit. I've done that before and it's worked (although I let several weeks go by). Good luck.

Shoot. I guess I will try to resubmit now, and if that doesn't work, I will have to delete and resubmit. I did make some changes. The app, as submitted, has basically a calendar, where you do one thing on each day. I had the calendar set up as a column within a menu list, basically each day was a different custom text that you could select, in a column. I changed it, and made it sort of more linear, and put a next button and back button on each page. So, you basically go to day 1, it has a back button to the main screen, and a next button to day 2 (which opens with the curl transition). On Day 2, there's a back button to day 1 and a next button to day 3, also with the curl transition, etc, etc. We'll see if this works - resubmitting now.

It's always, 100% of the time an opinion, that's all it is. If the reviewer 'thinks' your app is not creative enough, cool enough, useful enough, whatever, they reject it. Sucks but true. It's always a balance for them (I think) to decide what's Apple-coo and what's not Apple-cool. This is a design / creative rejection and only you'll be able to figure out what they don't like or what they want. Super bummer when this happens but does happen. I'm hearing that Apple is around 30% approval these days. Amazing to think how many apps they must review each day and even more amazing to think about how many no's and yes's they send out based on opinionso of a reviewer. Style, style, stlye.

Well, it's in review again now, fingers crossed. We'll see how this time goes. I personally think it's my best app yet, even better than a couple of the totally customized programming ones I outsourced. The functionality of buzztouch is amazing, and I think this app really showcased that. We'll see.

What's your secret for getting it into review so fast? Each of my apps waited almost exactly 7 days as 'WAITING FOR REVIEW'.

The original review took about 6 days. I was expecting longer to review my resubmission, but they got on it almost immediately after I uploaded the resubmission. I suspect that they are looking to see if I actually made changes to it.

Goodness - it's been under review for over an hour now; I've never had one take that long. This is either really really bad or really really good. I can't take this anticipation too much longer - gotta go to sleep and see what happened in the morning. Praying about this one!

Thanks y'all!! Still no indication of what they'll do. It's been In Review since 10:21 last night, CST. I have never had an app go anywhere near this long under review. They must be having a committee meeting about it or something - hopefully it'll be good news for this Navy veteran on Veteran's Day today! :) Here is a link to a flickr photo set I have of some of the screens. I didn't put the most important part of the app in this screenshot, because I'm sort of holding out on that, just in case. http://flic.kr/s/aHsjwTjRML I sure hope they approve it today!

Like most people on this forum I have had similar problems in the past. I have made four apps for the statewide EMS prehospital treatment protocols (ME, PA, MA and NY). They are almost identical in design but the protocols differ. Two of these were accepted no problem. One was initially accepted but then the update was denied because they claimed it was more of a book. I resubmitted without any changes and it was accepted. My latest one last week was initially denied because of the book thing as well despite having many other features. I added a few extra screens, resubmitted, and it was approved within an hour. There is certainly no rhyme or reason to it whatsoever. Good luck!

Fixed the spelling part, thanks! I did get it rejected again, but this time they put in two screenshots - one of the how to name your elf page, and one of the main screen. I think I am going to reevaluate how the main screen works; instead of loading a menu list, I'm going to try to load up some buttons, and have a few large buttons that call up a text page. This way it will look cleaner. Also, for the naming your elf page, I think I will add some graphics, maybe a scroll with a quill or something, and see how that works. If it gets rejected again, I'll go back to the drawing board. Dammit!

About to submit it again, have been working on this all weekend. I finally have something that I'm comfortable with, and I have to say, it looks and functions even better than the original submission. I thought the original was good, but this one is better! Let me know what you think by the screenshots: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjwHcSTX It'll be a $0.99 or $1.99 app, I can't decide which.

Naughty or nice? Cool idea, you'll sell the crap out of that thing too. I can't tell you how many times Apple has frustrated folks with their picky details and high standards only to later hear exactly what you said: They drove me to better work! Nuts sometimes how frustrating it can get but ultimately, all's well. Cool elf.

It took me a long time to get my first app accepted. The second one went a lot easier, then the third just did make it. Is this your first app? (Don't give up, eventually they will accept it) (You could bring the price down to free, then change the price to $0.99 later after it has been accepted)

OK Buzztouch fans, please send me some good vibes, prayers, chants, mojo, juju, or whatever else ya got. I uploaded the new version about a week ago, made some really cool graphical changes, and made it free. I got the email about an hour ago that it is under review now. I have about 10 apps already live, and, my own browsing showed that the fastest I had an app go from in review to available was 20 minutes, the longest was about 8 hours. I've passed the 20 minute mark, and hoping for faster than 8 hours. I must say, this is a really cool and fun app, and with the new changes, I think it's a great app. I sure hope apple thinks so!

Well crap - it got rejected again. I totally do not get it. If I can figure out how to compile this to send the app file to somebody, I would love for one of you to take a look at it and tell me what you think

Same thing - does not take advantage of the ios platform. I really do not get it. The app I made before had a very similar look, but was approved immediately. This one actually is more robust

I may try to make it look almost exactly like the one that was approved and see what happens. The conspiracy theorist in me wants to say it is because the app has the word Christmas in the title but apple would not hopefully do that
