BT server 2.06 Password issue

for reason when i installed BT_server 2.06 i couldn't log in anymore. When i say forgot password it just sends me a blank email with no password. So i can't log in anymore! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have re-installed four times, even tried 2.03 with no results!

Hi Cookup, Did you remember to edit the configuration.php file with the information about your database and login info? And, did you try the default login IDs and passwords as indicated in the Readme file? Mark

Hi Cookup If your session timed out you are going to be sent to a different url. Make sure you trim it all the way to the /index.php. Try to login now and should be able to login M.

Hmm...not sure what's happening here. Passords / Logins are not over-written when the install process runs. This means that whatever password you re-set to should be valid. Also, keep in mind that email addresses are used as login ids. If you changed your email address this is your new login id. Lastly, if you still can't get it, open phpMyAdmin or whatever you use to manage your mySQL database. Find your users record in bt_users, it should be id #1. Edit this row. Set the password to the original value of: 79b98fb57b34bacfee2130bdd8d23530 That is the md5 encrypted version of the original password the software ships with. Use your email, the original password, change it again.

I had the same problem, used the MD5 encrypted version and was able to get back in, but when I try to change the password to something else it says the original password is incorrect and I cannot change the password. Hmmmm?

If your outbound mailserver is not sending emails the forgot password screen will for sure lock you out! Best practice (with almost any tool like this). a) Create an account with admin privs. Write down this login / password and keep it safe b) Create another account for YOU to use. This will be your primary login day-to-day c) If your forget your password and use the forgot password screen your password WILL get overwritten with a new md5() hash. This means you wont' know what it is, even if you look at the database. This is emailed to your email address. This means if your server is NOT sending emails OK you will never know what the new password is. This is why having your original admin user, the one you never actually use, comes in handly. Login as that person, re-set the password for the account you can't access. Hope this makes sense. If you cannot get in you'll need to open phpMyAdmin and manually paste in a known md5 hash for somebodies password. Tip: Tons of online generators for this. Find a freebie md5 site, type a word in, it will show you the md5 version. Thats the version you need to paste the mySQL table for users password.

Thanks for the reply, that looks like a good practice to follow. I was able to resolve the issue. I did get an email on my computer (using mozilla Thunderbird) from the buzztouch server, however it was blank, but later I noticed on my iphone email I could see the message and the new password, so since I had already inserted the md5 hash into the mysql database I went ahead and requested a new password again and used this one to re-set everything once I got back in. I went pack to my PC to check the second email and it too was blank, but as I said, not on my iphone email. weird! All other emails coming into my pc look fine. Thanks again for the help :) Cole

Blank emails to PC but not to iPhone - that is weird. Hmm. Naturally the server doesn't know what email client you'll be using so it has zero to do with that. It's suppossed to send a plain-jain email, text/plain format, nothing fancy. I'll look into it eventually. Maybe find something for 2.1.1. Already on 2.1.0 - daily since the begining, funny.
