Buzztouch Server Installation

I am trying to install the buzztouch server on my computer. I have never worked with servers before and have no idea what to do. I read the readme.txt file and got so confused. The problem i am having is creating a database. i was able to place the php files downloaded from buzztouch into the apache folder and it is able to read the error for a missing database. I have both mac and pc systems (mac pro, macbook pro, windows server 2008). If someone can post a video on how to setup the server that would be great. Thanks! Specs: Buzztouch Server 2.0.6 Mac OSX Lion Xcode 4.2 Windows Server 2008

A much better install doc is coming out shortly (around midnight PST) along with 2.0.7 - tons of improvements. If you're unsure how to administer a website and motivated to learn now, I applaud you. However, you may still struggle with the technical side of things? Not sure. We hope to figure out a way to offer assistance but the fact is, we get SO MUCH email with requests for help (not to mention the forum) that we simply don't know the best approach. Eventually maybe a way to connect those that are more experienced with those that are not...dunno... may work. Grab the new download when you see it in a few hours and see if the .pdf helps clarify some things.

Hi Paul, You indicate that you are running a Windows 2008 server. If you are planning on installing BT Server there, you need to make sure a few things are in place. First, you need to install the Apache Web Server on your box. Next, you will need to install PHP and mySQL. All of these things can be installed on a Windows Server 2008 box. There will be some additional configuration required to get PHP and mySQL working well enough for you to then install BT Server. If you get all those in place (effectively the LAMP stack except you are doing WAMP (Windows instead of Linux)), then you can proceed with the BT Server installation. Or, you can sign up for a hosted solution like Host Gator or ProHosters, and host it there. Thanks! Mark

Are you running the install process when you update? It's that process that sets the current version you're running. The current version you're running is stored in the database. Overwriting the files does not update the values in the database, going through the install process does for some values, like the latest version. Hope this makes sense.

This is my result when trying to run install: Warning: require_once(config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/15/7309115/html/index.php on line 2 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/15/7309115/html/index.php on line 2 Any tips on how can I fix this without having to go through all my files one by one (on my hosting account) to see what's changed. If i use the www.domain.com/BT-server I can still log into the older version, but cannot run new install or view my domains main website. I am considering deleting the BT-server files all together from hosting account, and starting from fresh because I have nothing really valuable in the files directory, but I am worried that this will affect my database set up for bt-server in a negative way. Tips appreciated! Thank you Mark

HI Mark, Sometings not adding up. If you're running the install at youdomain/BT-server/install you should see anything related to the config.php file - it's not used in the install process. Removing the previous install and uploading the new folder would not hurt anything. You could remove the existing database all together and create a new one or you can just use the same one. The install process will work fine if the database already exists.

I have built many websites/forums boards. I am hosting at godaddy. I created a new database with the required utf8_unicode_ci. I have also set file permissions to read and write for the Files folder. I have edited the config file with the database information but I dont get anything past the information below, no set up or install button.... You should have already created an empty database and user as described in the README.txt file included with this software The database should have utf8_unicode_ci as the collation (see image). The database user must have SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, and CREATE privileges. If you're unsure what this means, ask your system administrator for assistance. This installation process does not create an empty database. If you're on a shared host your account type may not allow you to create new databases. In this case, they probably already provided you with a database and login. This is OK. This software can run on the existing database. If you're unsure what a table prefix is, use the default bt_ prefix. Application PHYSICAL PATH like /var/vhosts/domain/httpdocs/BT-server (not a URL) <input type=text name=path id=path value=
