Is the buzztouch server necessary for the future?

I've been away for the past 1-2 weeks and have missed a lot of the buzz with the new buzztouch server. I understand the point in the sense it lets people host their apps on their own server. All of my apps are disconnected from the buzztouch server so this doesn't really effect me. I'm no computer guru by any stretch of the imagination so it seems MUCH simpler to just keep creating apps using the buzztouch interface the way I have been and update them as needed. However these plugins look really intriguing. Are these going to be available if we continue to use the buzztouch website (if that's even an option)? And if I did go to buzztouch server, would I have to REDO all my apps?? Not a pleasant thought. Josh

Hi Mutzy, No, BT Server will not be required moving forward. You can continue to develop and host your apps on the current BT Server, and pretty much pretend that the installable version doesn't even exist! However, if you wanted to be in control of the entire process...from providing screen plugins to hosting your apps, and want to get totally away from the current BT Servers, then you could install your own. Basically, in a nutshell, it's good for those that perhaps want to offer their own development environment...maybe internally at their work, or externally to people like Buzztouch currently does. From what I can tell, most of it will be free, but some advanced features may cost. If you're happy where you are, no reason to play with BT Server, unless you just want to help their development process. You can instal and play around with it, with no effect on your current apps. At this point, we're pretty much all just testing it for them. Hope this helps! Mark (not a BT employee)

I've been off the forum too, busy working out lots of exciting stuff in the pipeline. @mutzy: No, you'll not need to run a self-hosted control panel, GoNorthWest has it right. However, it may help to know that we are working hard to create the same experience, self-hosted or not. In other words, using your own self-hosted pane or the buzztouch.com panel will be the same experience. Plugins are the future so we can all begin to just add things without worrying about versions, platforms, backend, etc. Your panel or ours, same experience.
