iOS Application Icon Creator Template - download illustrator CS5 file

Hi everyone, Thanks to this forum I've learnt a ton about apps, so I thought I'd give something back by sharing one of my app icon templates. The file can be found here: http://whatwedomedia.com/downloads/Application-Icon-Creator.zip SPECIFICATIONS Inside the unzipped folder you will find two files: Application Icon Master.ai (referred to as 'Master') Application Icons Master Export.ai (referred to as 'Export') By using these two files you will be able to create the following exports, they are correctly named, sized and designed for all iOS devices Icon.png - 57 x 57 Universial application icon Icon-settings.png - 29 x 29 Universal application icon for settings area. Alternative name: Icon-Small.png [email protected] - 58 x 58 Universial application icon for settings area. Alternative name: Icon-Small.png Icon~ipad.png - 72 x 72 iPad application icon. Alternative name: Icon-72.png Add some smaller (iPad doc: 64×64, other optional 32×32, 24×24, 16×16) custom icons to your project. See comments. Icon-spot~ipad.png - 50 x 50 iPad icon for spotlight search. Alternative name: Icon-Small-50.png iPhone OS trims 1 pixel from each side and adds a drop shadow. The actual size is 48×48 pixels. iTunesArtwork.png - 512 x 512 Universal application icon for iTunes App Store. Uploaded separately to iTunes. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Open the Master file in Illustrator cs5. You will find three layers and should be fairly self explanatory. 2. Place your vector/jpg artwork on the middle layer called 'YOUR ARTWORK HERE' and delete the temp layers called DELETE. Your artwork should be as high quality as possible. 3. Once happy, save the file, you may want to keep it open just make sure it's saved for the next function 4. Open the Export file. You will see all of the icons set up with their own slices in the proper sizes. The Master file is automatically loaded into each of the containers and will be automatically resized to fit each icon size. Take a look at the icons and make sure you are happy with how it looks at varying sizes. 5. If you need to make tweaks simply edit the Master file, save, then go back to the Export file. You will be prompted to let the program refresh the files, say yes, and you will see the files all update with the change. 6. Once satisfied with the icon in the Export file use the File > Save for Web function. A preview of your iOS ready images will pop up on the screen. Hole Command or Shift and select all of the icons. Make sure the program is set to save in png 24 format 7. Hit save, select the destination and change the drop-down from 'All Slices' to 'User selected slices' 8. That's it, you will have all the icons in proper sizes and format correctly named as per apple nomenclature recommendations. If you're editing your BT app in Xcode you can now drop your new icons into place on the summary screen, or move the appropriate files into place to replace the default icons in BT_images. The more advanced users can use all of the generated icons to fulfill all of their tasks within the iOS system (Note: if you do know how to plug in all 7 icons into their proper places within Xcode please share your knowledge in a comment as I am yet to figure this out myself... I'm just a graphics guy ;) Anyway, I hope this helps someone. Thanks to everyone for participating in a great forum. Cheers - Luke

Hi MarkCo, Sorry, no, this is an illustrator only file. It's designed for working with vector artwork. You can of course import photoshop files into the Master but you will need illustrator to export the pixel accurate slices.

For sure Mark, will do. If I have the time I'll also update the zip to contain a Photoshop template as well.
