Default Xcode splash screen displays BEFORE BT Splash Screen

I was trying to be clever and I set a splash image in Xcode (4.2) by clicking on TARGETS > LAUNCH IMAGES and manually selecting the launch image(s). This was fine until i decided I didn't like the image and that I preferred the status bar to be black rather than the default grey (and the time to fade). All this is easily changed in BT. So I created the new image, set up the screen in BT with the appropriate settings and VOILA - my new splash screen works perfectly. Except... When I load the app (on simulator and device) it still shows the OLD splash screen before loading the new splash screen. I am sure there is a line of code lurking somewhere in Xcode that I need to change, or a setting in a plist somewhere that will force the app to ignore the default splash screen and use my BT one instead. If worst come to worst, I think I can probably delete the BT splash screen and reconfigure the new images in Xcode (but I would rather not...)

I removed the app from the device and cleared the simulator, but no luck. The file(s) are neither in the Xcode project nor in the actual directory. I suspect that on a clean system (i.e. one that has never had the app installed) this wouldn't be an issue. I am guessing that in both the simulator and the device the files are cached somewhere and the app is picking them up before the splash screen method is called. That being the case - can anyone tell me how to turn the status bar black in Xcode when the app first loads?

In xcode, its on the info screen (top of the windows, it says summary, info, build settings...). In the custom iOS settings, there are a bunch of entries. Click the last one and click the plus button (add another custom setting). Scroll through the list and select Status Bar is Initially Hidden, click it, and type yes in the other box. If your version does not have a list to select from, the entry is UIStatusBarHidden=yes
