Store all app info on phone, not internet.

I'm very new to this, and having a moment of confusion. OK, actually many moments of confusion. I am basically creating an app that uses simple sub-menus that lead to text. I do not plan to release this app to the market, because it is intended for employees only at my place of employment. I can create the app, send it to eclipse, work it in the emulator, and save it as an .apk to my computer. I can then drag that .apk to my phone and use it there no problem. My question is this: How do I save the app and manually install the app to a phone so that all the text info is stored on the phone itself? I assumed that once I saved the app as an .apk, and dragged it to the phone, it would all be stored locally on the phone, but I am apparently wrong, because if I put the phone in airplane mode, I have no app content. I realize I am probably overlooking something very simple here, but i'm stuck. Thanks for your help.
