menu-List: hosted offline or on another server

Has anyone been able to take their menu-list page and host it offline or on another server? Example: I have several html files that link off of the menu-list. These are all local. I would like to also either have the menu-list local or hosted on a dedicated server. What would be the procedure to do this? Many thanks!

Hi @aquila198, The items that populate the menu-list are specified in the BT_Config.txt file. If you crack that open and take a look, you'll see all your menu items there. So, you could move everything to a dedicated server...the BT_Config.txt file as well as your currently local HTML files, and that would remove the dependency on BT servers. Or, you could bundle it all with your app, and provide updates via an app update. If you can let us know your concerns and what exactly you want to accomplish, we can probably help a bit better. Thanks! Mark

Thanks Mark - It's an app for the kids when they travel. Therefore, if it could run locally, it could work in the car/train/airplane. I'll definitely look into the information you provided! The other reason I was looking into having it hosted elsewhere was the recent postings on the speed, as BT grows, things slow a little. Just checking out the options. Many thanks!

If it's an app that pretty much has static content...meaning you don't need to connect to the Internet for anything (maps, Google, etc), then I would suggest keeping everything locally. That would speed up the app, and completely remove the dependency on BT servers. You'll have to create all the screens you need (like HTML files, PDFs, Docs, etc), but depending on the app, that might not be a big deal. Mark

If you want your app to work without an internet connection (aside from the initial install) you will have to embed all of your files and content. That means they will need to be present in your xcode project when you compile your app. The idea is that you don't want to connect to the internet to fetch any files. They are stored locally and will show up when accessed by the device. It also might be a good idea to remove the Configuration Data URL and Report to Cloud URL fields in the Core Properties of your app as well. This will prevent the app from trying to update itself. Please read up on these settings in the Documentation in the 'Help' section of this website. If you have any more questions after reviewing the Documentation, please ask.
