Magazine App - Ideas ?

Hi, I am helping someone have his Magazine on a iphone/android app. I honestly don't know where to start. The app will only contain the magazine, nothing else. His magazine is a digital one. It's published in PDF format but I can ask him convert it to any format I want it. I thought of maybe having the ability of reading the magazine, and pass the pages by just clicking on the right/left side of the screen, and so on. Which tools from buzztouch would be helpful? First thing that came to my mind was to make them an image and upload it to flickr. But the font won't get resize in a way that people can actually read it. Any suggestions?

Hi Zeta_M, In Buzztouch you can actually load PDF files and read them, so just putting the entire magazine (each issue) on the app would be one way to approach things. That would give you one long document to read, and you scroll from top to bottom. Alternatively, you could break the magazine up into sections, do a Menu List for each section, and have the person read it that way. If the PDF file is relatively big, I would encourage you to package it with the app, and then have updates provide new issues. One other thing you could do...convert the magazine to an HTML document, and have links to the various pages from within each page. All you have to do is create Custom HTML screens to make that work, and put them in the BT_Docs directory! Mark

Great suggestions! I am trying not to make the users do an update of the app every time a new version of the magazine comes up, since it will be published every two weeks. Maybe the PDF or the HTML taken from an URL would be great for this type of approach. Cause I can keep updating the URL and people won't have to update the entire app. Thanks!

Yep, that would work pretty well! Just make sure you indicate to your users that an internet connection is required to view the content. Even though the stuff will get cached, it won't do so until the first time it is downloaded. So, in order to retrieve the content, they'll need a connection to the Internet.

Another suggestion is to create an RSS feed that is updated with each new issue. That way you always have a running menu of past issues as well that can be accessed. You can always keep adding individual menu item links to the new editions within Buzztouch. These would automatically updated on the users' phones/ipads. A few possibilities for you. Good luck.

Hmmm can I create an RSS feed or does it have to be from Twitter/Facebook things?
