Should I alter where my images come from?

Hi all - So here is my predicament. In my 1.0 version of my app, I (kinda foolishly) hosted all my icons/backgrounds on Picasa and have my app fetched them from the URL to display them. However, this increases load time, so in an effort to speed things up, I put all the images in BT_images folder, and submitted a new binary to Apple for version 1.1. Now that the update is for sale, I can now switch the paths to the images name and not the URL. This has the following ramifications as far as I can tell: I have about 120 downloads now. This would require these people to download the update. If they do, then it's fine, but if they don't then if I make the change, and they REFRESH the app then they won't be able to see the new images and I risk them leaving bad reviews/being unhappy. My question - is this worth it? Are there ways to FORCE refresh? Thanks everyone! Peter

My mistake - refreshing isn't what I want. But if I continue to make changes they will be constantly reminded to refresh. At some point they will refresh the content and see nothing. :(

Yeah, I kinda ran into this issue as well. I'm not quite sure what to do about it. For my latest app, I put all the images and other static material in with the app itself...no reason to host it remotely if it will never change. It all sorta boils down to a design decision that has to be made early on...there are pros and cons of doing it both ways.

I'm leaning toward leaving the URL. I'd prefer not upset current customers and appear a broken app, even it's not going to be many. Lesson learned though.

I'm not positive but I think you may be able to put a image file name AND image url in your control panel. Then, if it works like I remember, the app will first search for a local file, and if it can't find one, it will look to the url. That may be a way of satisfying everyone. But as you have noticed you will have problems down the road updating your app or even tinkering around with it because it will prompt your users to refresh and they may end up with unfinished or missing content. What I and many others have done to fix this is to disconnect the app from buzztouch completely. If you really want your users to have the option of refreshing all the content then it may not work for you. But by doing this (delete the report to cloud and data url sections at the top of your config.txt file) the refresh icon will disappear on the app so users will only get new content when you send an update to iTunes. Good luck!

That's really good advice - and I've considered this but have many remaining questions. How do I include text screens in the app itself? Bear in mind I'm not a programmer...
