Opt in proximity notifications for iOS?

I asked something similar a whole back, but I'm now thinking about having an opt-in alert option that would let you know, for example when you were within 2 miles of my clients store by way of an alert saying (eg) xxx on offer today only, click for details, which would then take you to an ad for the product. Dave originally said this would go against Apples terms, but I think iOS5 has a proximity alarm, so maybe it would be possible now?

Hey basement, Your idea makes sense and would be an awesome feature. However, if I was going to invest a whole bunch of time into developing something that might result in my app being rejected, I would want to personally read and understand Apple's Terms & Conditions. It wouldn't be any fun to create this feature on the advice of someone in the forums only to find out later that it's not allowed. But, I understand why you asked on this forum. It could save you the time of reading through the T&C. Maybe someone else will chime in? Maybe you can find where in the T&C this kind of feature is mentioned and paste it here for a group look/discussion?

How about this for android applications? Not against their terms. Any new developments? Seems like these people offer a solution for a hosted solution. http://xtify.com/demos.html I would be very interested in some plugins that would allow us to add this type of feature to our clients apps. Is there a devs for hire section here to hire someone to build us a plugin solution? Thanks, Richard Wing 623-505-6302 skype - richardwing

there is something that does that for iOS, but setting it up is beyond me. However, they did say a simpler SDK would be available in January.... check out geoloqi.com

We do plan on having a 'Development for Hire' section of the forum when we roll out the new version. If you're looking for a developer there are plenty of websites out there full of potential hires. ODesk comes to mind as one of them.
