App crashed when started in app store review stage

Hi there, my app submission failed (see reason below) any chance someone knows what the process is to symbolicate? I hope it's just a version problem as I am worried about delving into a crash log! (copy of message into from app store) We found that your app crashed on iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.5, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. Your app crashed when we: 1) Launched the app on a device connected to a 3G or WiFi network. 2) The app crashes. We have attached detailed crash logs to help troubleshoot this issue. For information on how to symbolicate and read a crash log, please see Tech Note TN2151 Understanding and Analyzing iPhone OS Application Crash Reports. .

Did you test your app on an actual device before submitting it to the app store? That's one of the best ways to reproduce issues, and an app should always be tested on a real device before submission. Mark

A few thousand things can cause apps to crash. Not trying to be funny, just literal. Need some details...maybe even some crash logs ;-) before guessing and pointing you down the wrong path.

Hi Mark and David Yes I tested it on my iPhone 4 and the only thing I picked up was some of my HTML custom pages would not load without an Internet connection while others would? Not sure why as I copied the HTML in the same way in each case. Other than that the app runs fine. I have maps, Custom HTML pages, a photo gallery, HTML web pages ang google forms In my app so any one could be a culprit. As for the crash logs David I don't know were to start on these. Any chance you could give a hint on what to look for? This is the first of two files they sent me (hope it shows up on this post). I have recompiled my app and after trying to run it again in the sim where it crashed. So the recompile now works and so does the app on my iPhone. I ran a diagnostic and there seems to be quite a few memory leaks - would these be causing the crash after upload to app store for review? Thanks for help Tony ps sorry about the large upload on my previous post.

Just getting back to this. So, the long crash log doesn't do much for me...wish it did. I think we may need to back up a bit and try to first figure out as closely as we can what's causing the trouble. It's hard to nail this down sometimes. Memory Leaks: If your app is showing memory leaks...where are they? This for sure could be the issue but it's impossible to know where they are without knowing more. And, the odd thing, we don't hear the 'memory leak' thing too often. Tens of thousands of these things in the wild and generally they are very reliable. This for sure doesn't mean that there isn't any issue with any of the source-code, it just means we don't hear much about it. The other trouble is the idea that there are TONS of ways to set things up and all the options in the control panel tends to complicate isolating issues. Lets do this: a) Post the name of the app you're working with, exactly as it appears in your control panel. b) Post a note with: 'It's OK for buzztouch to download my app for testing' I have access to the projects but need your permission. I'll download it and see if the errors reports you posted (I removed some of them after copy-paste) surface. We'll get this!

Hi David thank you so much for helping me out on this. I give you permission to view and download the app for testing. The app is called Instant Access. I have had a look in the analizer and the memory leaks don't look drastic from a graphical point of view? It all looks OK on my iPhone other than 6 of the 8 custom html pages don't seem to be caching the file and hence not displaying them when 'off line'. Ill have a another look at the setting on these pages. Good luck with it - not a mystery to me why it crashed - perhaps a recompile and resubmit may help?! Thanks Tony

Hi, Did you maybe manage to find a solution? I am having the same thing. My app has been rejected two times already because of crashing when in review clicked on HTML doc from URL. In simulator everything works fine. Re-download,re-compile and re-submit didn't help. Thanks, Mario
