Maps, Facebook, Email, Youtube Errors in Android Eclipse Simulator

Hi Everyone, I finally got my project running in a simulator. However, most of the links/tabs I created don't work. What runs/works: -2 text pages -The twitter feed -Fun Quiz What doesn't run: -Email : Error says problem launching email composer -Youtube: The page/video loads. However when you click to play the video you get an error that says webpage not available and shows a link ...youtube-mobile--- -Error loading an RSS Feed (just says error) -Facebook: Error validating Application -Multi Locations Map: Error says maps not configured properly So as you can see, most don't work although I have created them according to the correct specs. Any advice? Patrice

If you are using 1.5 then some features are not working yet. Soon they say...

Hi, I just created 2 days ago. Is that the version that has issues? So some of the Buzztouch features aren't live? Thanks. Patrice

Hi Patrice, You don't have an 'early adopter' badge on your profile, so you built in version 1.4. You should not be experience the errors mentioned above because 1.4 has been a pretty stable release. Are you getting any error messages in the console? Also, the pages that aren't showing - were they added to Buzztouch after you downloaded the source code? You may just need to refresh the app.

Hi MGoBlue, I am getting the errors within the simulator (1.6 version) when I click and try and access the information. All the pages were created at the same time. They were not added after the download. I actually went back and made some changes to some pages today, deleted some and replaced some. Then deleted previous project in Eclipse and installed updated project. But that didn't help. Same errors. What do you suggest? Patrice

I have created a screen capture of all the errors in the simulator. Go to: www.goinggreenfilmfestival.com/errors-simulator.jpg to see exact errors. Thanks. Patrice

PS I looked into some of the coding and a lot of the features say: //showLocationMap public void showLocationMap(){ It looks like a lot of the features say void. Maybe that is the issue. So how do I change that so that the feature is allowed?

Hi LoglineEngine, the image you posted is helpful and shows 5 totally different topics, all worth discussing. None of these are 'errors' but instead a matter of you understanding a few things. It's been two days since you began your quest to figure out the Android development process and you've already got Eclipse running, and a simulator, and and app - good work. Now, a bit more understanding... in the order of your image: 1) Facebook: It looks like you don't have a Facebook API key configured in your control panel for the Facebook screen. See the screen for details..you need to setup a Facebook app and get it's Facebook API credentials before facebook will work. 2) Web Page Not Available: Simulators do not play YouTube vides. Test this screen on a device, it will work if the device can play YouTube videos. 3) Email Composer: Simulators do no send email, same as above, test on a device. 4) RSS Error: The URL displayed in the message is not an RSS feed, it's an HTML webpage. Have a look at it in your browser. Click the Subscribe link, it will show you the RSS feed URL: feed://www.pitchengine.com/rss.php?id=41632 5) Maps not configured: See the README.txt file in your project. You have not setup Maps yet. You'll need to get an API Key from Google to use Google Maps. Info in your readme and tons of discussion on the buzztouch forums about setting up maps.

Hi David, I followed all the instructions from: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=DBE27AF95442FAD7878D254&status=&searchInput=google%20map&sortColumn=FT.dateStampUTC&sortUpDown=DESC¤tPage=1&doViews=1 and also from your video in changing the code (removing comments and adding both codes). PROBLEM: The map loads, but there is no grid background; only the red dots that you see before you add the api keys. Also the points of interest on the map are in Chinese! Do you know what the problem is? Patrice

NOTE: I can only get the first part of the map to run with Google Simulator now. When I try to get it to run with Android 1.5, 2.1, etc. I get errors. So even though I made the appropriate changes to the files and got rid of the comments, the maps don't load on the android simulators, and only load on the Google simulator with Chinese writing. I deleted and downloaded a new version of the project. I am running the suggested Google Simulator. Still same issues with maps in Chinese. See photo of map here: http://goinggreenfilmfestival.com/map-chinese.jpg What can I do? Thanks.

Perhaps I need to post a new posting for this one issue?
