Will my update work?

So, I've just found Buzztouch over the last couple of months and I have rebuilt an app that I already have built for the appstore and I'm wondering if when I submit my update and it gets approved (hopefully) will it have any issues when my users go to update it. My fear is that the app won't open because I'm using a different set of tools and really don't have the programming skills to ensure that my app will seemlessly update. I know I can instruct users to delete and reinstall but I know that will result in a ton of bad reviews. Does anybody else have experience with this? Does my question make sense?

I should say the App was previously built with another service. That is why I am concerned.

As long as you were the developer that submitted the previous app, it can be done. To do an update, you need to make sure that the bundle identifier matches and that you update the version number to something higher. That's the short answer.

Ok. I did both of those things and submitted it earlier tonight. We will see what happens.

It may or may not help your case if you put into the review notes that the app is a re-write.

If it helps: There really is not concept of 'updating' an app in iOS. Every update is a total re-install. The process is exactly the same as deleting it from the phone and re-installing it. There are some minor expections to this (like the app not losing it's data directory contents on the phone, preferences, etc). I'm saying this so you know that a totally new code-base is not going to hurt you. This has nothign to do with the approval process, that's up to Apple and how 'good' they feel your app is. Lastly: What service are you switching from and why? We keep track of this kind of thing so we can get better and better and learn as much as we can (oftentime good stuff) about the 100 or so 'app builders' out there. Thx for whatever you can offer.

@got fox?: Forgot the mention the other day when I saw your post....I can't get your lighting tour in Vegas out of memory. I saw a video of you like 6 months ago taking a tour of some crazy show's light setup, it was awesome. Everytime I see a stage now I think of all the 'goings on' in and around productions. All because of that darned video! Funny.

@David, I have been using Appmakr since summer of last year. I really loved working with it for the longest time until around spring of this year. Bug fixes became a rarity, there is absolutely no communication from the Devs and rare acknowledgement about bugs. There has been an enormous uprising among those who would call themselves core users and I defended the service until I was blue in the face but at this point my apps are buggy and I want more control over my apps. I'm sad because I really enjoyed using their service but I'm thrilled that the issues I have had with them has led me to find Buzztouch. The amount of customization with Buzztouch and the ability to run through the source code is amazing! Also, EVERY question I have asked on these forums have been answered quickly, if not by you then from someone great from this community. I'm so excited with the possibilities of your service and I am going to painstakingly rebuild all of my current apps using your tools. I do wonder though if it is possible to incorporate their Socialize SDK that is now available to the public into Buzztouch. Not sure how difficult this would be but I did enjoy the social features of that service (share stories via facebook, twitter and the ability for the user to create user profiles and like and comment). That's my story in a nutshell!

@got Fox: http://www.jimonlight.com/2010/05/24/cirque-du-soleils-ka-melts-jimonlight-coms-mind/ @mitchellapps: Good info...for sure something for us to keep in mind (continuing to spend time on the forum, etc). Socialize...for sure a great idea. We've tried a few different ways to get the sharing thing down. Really want to nail this so it's available on as many screens as possible. Still not sure of the best approach. Their plugin may be the way to go but I've not looked at it. I added it to the list...we'll get to it eventually. So...thanks again and remember.... the slow turtle wins the race (we'll be doing this for lots of years)
