Can the buzztouch app building tool help us with this?

Hello. I help out with a 100% non profit site related to promoting fingerstyle guitar music. Google -Fingerstyle Guitarists- that's us up top. We had someone contact us regarding building an app- after mulling it over, we've decided to first try out some of the free app tools to see if any of them can do what we need before 'going pro'. Just to reiterate, the objective here isn't to make money. It's just to provide a mobile service to people who enjoy the site. What we're basically looking for is an app that provides an updated feed of the videos that are streamed on our site, in addition to some sort of prominently displayed function that displays our monthly Featured Artist interview as it's posted, then updates every month when the new interview is added. If there's some sort of 'app backend' to handle the updated content, we will update that manually to align with the site content. I hope I'm communicating this adequately. Is this functionality possible with the buzztouch app builder? Sorry for the dumb new guy questions. Thanks. Sven

hi in Chicago, no dumb questions. Awesome site (I looked at it), cool stuff for sure. As you're realizing, there are SOOOO many ways to do something like this. Starting simple is usually the best approach. For sure buzztouch could help you with this, and, I'm sure other sites / tools could too. Just a matter of figuring out what site / tool to get comfy with I think. Your idea isn't complex on the surface but could get complex as time goes on. Manually updating content (simple) is for sure the way to start. Long term you could move towards a few dynamic scripts on your site to power your app's menus and content? buzztouch v1.4, the version you can use when you first sign up, is simple but limited. buzztouch v1.5 is much more flexible and robust. To get to v1.5 you'll need to get on the Early Adopter list. Use the link in your control panel. I would recommend hacking around a bit with both versions. In either case it sounds like you'll start by creating a menu of vidoes to tap to watch. Each video would be manually added / removed from a menu based on changes you decide on. The compile process can get a bit daunting for some but is for sure worth learning if you're going to do this without hiring a dev. It's not hard, just a series of new concepts for those who have never done anything like it before. Distribution: Apple and Android Market have some fees. Apple want's $99.00 and will require you to have a 'nice app' that doesn't look for feel amatuer. They must approve everything in their store. This is usually a good thing, ugly doesn't impress anyone, your end users included ;-). Android is $25.00 to get in the market (no approval process, all are accepted) and a bit faster. You can also distribute Android apps from your website through a URL if you want. This is useful in some cases. Tinker a bit with the tools here, we think you'll be impressed.

Hi @Guitar, Buzztouch can totally do this for you! Pretty simply, actually! I would recommend you sign up to be a v1.5 Early Adopter (instructions are on your home page), and it'll make things much easier. You can link to YouTube videos, you can link to your own audio/video files...you can pretty much link to any external content you want. When you're ready to update it, you do it on your remote copy, link it via the Buzztouch control panel, and, viola, your users have the new and update content! If you ever need help, the people in this forum are more than willing to assist! Mark

Thanks Mark and David! I'll definitely get on that v1.5 list and start nosing around, then post my questions here. Your answers were tremendously helpful. I doubt we'll meet Apple's slick looking criteria. Our design philosophy is (and always will be) absolute, absolute, absolute minimalism. Even if we were paying an experienced developer to build it to spec, we'd still want the barest possible bones, just like the site. Oh well. Then I guess step 1 is designing for Android. :) I'll start the learning curve today. Again, thanks both for your help.
