How easy/feasible is it do this in Buzztouch?

Hi everyone. Great application and great community. Sorry for the length of this post and if some of my questions are pretty obvious but I would really appreciate your help and advice. So I've just discovered the wonderful world of Buzztouch. I've watched the videos and have been toying around with it for the last two days. Quick background: So far I've managed to build an app with a tabbed home screen, multiple menus and a map with a few test addresses. I have not coding or HTML experience but would like to think I can be relatively techie/quick on the uptake. What I want to make is a restaurant guide with: - A list of places to eat with a screen for each of them with info - A map with all location - The ability to rate the places out of 5 stars and leave reviews for the restaurants, all on the same info page. - The ability to order/filter the restaurants by location (nearest first), rating, alphabetically and by food type. - A favourites button and folder/area. Basically I'd like to do something similar to this: http://www.logobird.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/BSL-Screenshots.png Which I think is an elegant and simple design, with all relevant tabs/info accessible from one page. So I have a few questions: 1. Instead of creating a screen for each restaurant is it possible to import a database/list from elsewhere and/or automate the process? 2. How can I create a restaurant page that looks similar to and has similar properties to the second screen above? Ie one for each restaurant with buttons and active links which would allow people to Add, Rate, Review, Share and Phone. Is this a custom html? How can I create template like this? Or is there one in Buzztouch already and it's simply a question of customization? 3. I've created a tabbed lower screen but how can I create tabs (3 or 4) on the top similar to the first screen above? 4. How can I created different lists which filter the restaurants in the way I mentioned above? 5. How can I introduce a ratings system and allow people to submit reviews? Lastly how feasible are all my demands and how long do you think it would take me to put something together like this with a database of around 50 restaurants? Sorry again for banging on thanks in advance for the help. Cheers, Sam

Hi Sam, no sorries needed - totally get it. We see creative idea all the time. The time it takes you to get something like this together is totally dependent on your skill and patience and understanding. For sure you'll have lots of coding ahead of you to do it. Like you mentioned, because of the nature of your data-centric idea, you'll need to get your head around how to tie the screens to your backend. You'll want to create the screens dynamically on your website then 'pull' them into your app using the dataURL property of each menu. Complicated, yes. Doable, yes. You'll need to get good at using .php (or other server side langauge) to output JSON data for each screen dynamically. This is a good discussion about dynamic maps: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=65181E4ADF97874B08E6D2B This is a good place to start seeing how the data from your server will look: http://www.buzztouch.com/docs/v1.5/screen_map.php Top nav bar: Not supported in the control panel, you'll need to make a custom plugin screen. Rating system, same thing...it's a matter of tying all your ideas together.

David, Somewhat related to this topic: Can you explain how take many locations and add annotations on a map. I see some apps that will find all places to eat in the USA, are they manually entering these addresses by hand? I want to be able to locate the user and find the nearest McDonald's let's say for an example. This would be the case if they are in NJ or CA. Hoping there is a way to tie into a map api via iOS.

I am looking for something like this too. Trying to build an RSS feed with locations and also a map that would hold all the addresses listed in the RSS. The problem is not building all this, because I learned how to set the RSS feeds and also create a file source for the map using this template: http://www.buzztouch.com/applicationScreens/sample-locations.txt My problem is getting all the coordinates of the locations I need to add. And this is a tough job as you need to find a database with POIs that you need to convert to an XML or copy/paste the coordinates in the above template. Best of luck to all !
