black icon on iphone home screen

The icon I created is not showing up in the iphone simulator. I all see is a black icon with the app title beneath is. I've seen references on this forum to a BT_images directory but I have no such directory in the code downloaded. Anyone have any idea about this?

If you don't have a BT_images directory in your unzipped files, you should probably re-download the file. Perhaps something went wrong in the initial transfer.

I have the directory. I placed the image in that location. I get a black image as well. Image doesn't show. Below is a screen shot of both my directory and simulator. (image name L-Logo.png) http://db.tt/yPojKqC

@MGoBlue - I've downloaded the file numerous times and there's just no such BT_images directory. I don't have those folders as shown in Aaron636r's screen shot.

@mmedia I'd be happy to take a look at it if you'd like. You can upload the zip file here: https://public.me.com/mgoblue86 I'll see if I can diagnose the problem.

Okay. This is a pretty easy one (hopefully). You are using version 1.4 so there is no BT_images folder. Were you able to upload an icon into Buzztouch? In your application control panel, select 'Change this app's icon.' Then upload your icon. The uploaded file becomes your applications icon. Version 1.4 does not download that icon as part of your zip file, but accesses it from the Buzztouch server. The other option to consider is to become an early adopter and try to build your app in version 1.5. You can still build a quiz, and it has a lot more functionality. Most of the docs and forum posts you are reading are regarding version 1.5. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry. Incorrect information. The icon file DOES download as part of the zip. You'll find it in the 'config' directory. It's called 'icon.png' You can replace that file with the icon you want. Then recompile and run the app. If should appear.

MGoBlue - nope - tried that already - replaced Icon.png and recompiled - didn't work.

MGoBlue: I signed up to the early adopter list. I'll try using 1.5 and see how it goes. Thanks a bunch for the help.

Interesting. I just tried it and it didn't work for me either. Hmmmm. Good luck with 1.5. It's really a nice system.

Thought I'd let you know how things are progressing with my update to 1.5. Still unable to make the app icon show anything but the black icon on the iPhone 4 simulator. It shows the correct app icon on the iPad 3.2 simulator. The project is also not updating my modifications to the app done on the control panel. Even a very small modification is not updating. I will try more testing tomorrow.

Also found the following report in xcode: appModified.txt does not exist in the cache. Not checking for updates.

I'm thinking that buzztouch is caching old data and that is at the root of the issue here. I came to this conclusion after completely deleting both apps that I had created. The project folder contains old data from the apps that I deleted. I'd delete the old data manually if I knew I could safely separate the old files from the new files without messing up the code. Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

@aaron - Still having that issue? Try removing the hyphen (-) from the image name. Did you recompile the simulator after adding the file to xcode?

I need to go back and try again. Using image URLs for now.

@mmedia - If your app isn't requesting you to refresh after loading it after making changes in your control panel, then your Report to Cloud URL and/or Configuration Data URL has been changed. To return them to their default state - Open up your apps Core Properties and then In each of the respective fields click on the blue ''Use the default buzztouch URL''. This will restore the original settings and your app should prompt for a refresh when it is loaded after changes are made. I'm a little confused about which data (where? In xcode or the app on buzztouch?) you're trying to delete and which data you are apprehensive about deleting. Unless you have made manual changes to the code within xcode, you should be able to re-download your apps project file any time without real data loss. So if you haven't made any code modifications, feel free to delete and clear all projects from xcode and your computer, and then download a fresh project from buzztouch. Then open up this project in xcode. Please ask more questions if this doesn't make any sense.

Thanks Parker - actually the issue was that I had only replaced the 72x72 icon and not the 57x57 icon in the images folder. Once I replaced the default 57x57 icon with the custom icon, it showed up. I guess it has something to do with the initial instructions to upload a 72x72 icon - nothing mentioned about 57x57. Either way, I'm good. Thanks again for your assistance.
