Cost to Release Android

What is involved in getting my app released once it's built and what does it cost?

For Android Market: Create a developer profile Pay a registration fee ($25.00) with your credit card (using Google Checkout) Agree to the Android Market Developer Distribution Agreement https://market.android.com/publish/signup For Amazon: Create a developer profile Pay a registration fee ($99.00) with your credit card (although they're waiving this now) Agree to the Amazon Agreement https://developer.amazon.com/welcome.html Also you can release for free on your own website. Android users need to have the ability on their phones to accept non-android market programs. It's a simple setting in the preferences on the phone. Hope it helps.

Mikandi and GetJar are also free to submit to. The Amazon fee is waived for 12 months, then it's $99.

Can you have free apps on Amazon? And what does waive mean? No charge or...?

The first year is completely free, then there's a charge of $99.00, whether you submit free or paid apps. If you submit apps during the first year, you'll have to pay in the second year unless you remove them. Also, they're a right pain to submit apps to if you use the BT Facebook option (It's so ridiculous I can't even explain it!), plus all the asset images you need to upload are different sizes to android market place images. And they take ages to approve apps. Apart from that, they're ok.

Thanks for the info @raveyd If it's anything like GetJar I think I pass ;) besides I don't like amazon so I don't want to support them (not with my own apps that is - if my customers want to use amzon I have no saying) Even Apple seem like a walk in the park in comparison.

Yes, a similar experience to GetJar... I gave up on GetJar when they rejected an app because it was ''using copyrighted images''. The images in question were called by an affiliate javascript code (like the groupon icon etc). I was dumbstruck by their lack of affiliate based knowledge.
