size of a video player

Im going to embed a video player (something like a youtube embed but its my video player instead) into a custom html screen what would be a good pixel height and width that I can use that will render a good viewing experience for most people with android phones? 380x500? 300x300? or....................any suggestions.

Maybe use the device-width meta tag in the HTML instead of hard-coding a size? See this: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/mobile/viewport_meta_tag

Hi scientific.jay, @David's advice is an excellent idea for displaying the video on whatever phone it ends up on. As for the actual pixel dimensions of the video file itself, I would recommend doing a bit of research into what the most common android phones are out there today, and what their displays can handle. Choose one of the larger and more popular devices as a guide for resolution. By using a larger video, you'll avoid the situation where a small video looks bad if scaled up to fit on a larger device. I'm guessing most Android phones have pretty similar screen sizes and choosing the larger one to base your settings off of won't have a very noticeable negative impact on how well the video plays. But, the only way to know is to test it out and see what works best on whatever devices you have access to.
